do people have any experience using these amps???

i need a small combo to play while i can use my stack... and these are a possibility...

i will go and test one out soon... but any opinions first??

Buy my 2x12 VC30!! It's in mint condition. Great amp.

I really want to try a LC15R, havent liked much of what i've heard from the VC15 though the VC30 is a good amp.

If i were to get a LC15R it'd be to have pedals such as the blackstar dual or mi audio cruchbox running through it.

If only i could find somewhere that has one to try out!

i had very bad experiences with the LC15R units. two separate occasions, so it wasnt just one amp.

in short, they SUCK!

are you looking at the 15s or 30s? i like the 30s better in both the lc and vc, but the vc15 is nicer than the lc15, if that makes sense.

in my opinion, of course. i just like the tone of the vc more, you might not.

EDIT: of course, 30 watts valve isn't really a "small" amp any more...

I'm a big fan of the VC-30. the 2x12 is just a lovely wee amp. A great clean sound, and it fairly sings when you "let her at it", too. It's never going to be a high-gain, fire breathing monster, though.

I had an LC50 before, which was a fine amp as well.

I have the VC50 which has 2 12 inch speakers so you won't want that much power.

My mate has the VC15 and it's a great little amp and so is the VC30, the clean sound is perfect! Though if you want monster gain then look at something else.

My VC15 is not going away for a while. I absolutely LOVE this amp. What do you want to know in particular?

I use a VC30 2x 10. I have had to treat it a bit gently but the sound is pretty good. It can get close to the AC30 sound I think-the same "ballpark"( as our American friends might say) but not by any means an AC30 for real. I have recently adjusted the tone settings on mine and am currently loving the sound. I'd found that my standard settings were ok for many venues but were a bit insipid for others. I now have settings that I am really happy with. Great amps for the money and given that I got mine for £165.00 (!) from Ebay (and I have spent £50.00 having it modded slightly plus a couple of valves) -I am not complaining. I would not expect it to be a metal amp-more vintage in tone. Great 1960's tones and superb for blues tones.For a bit of distortion you would need a good pedal (I use a Jekyll & Hyde- only just on though).

Hey, I've got a VC30-212. Out of interest, what did you modify on it? Did you get a tech to do the work, or do it yourself?

I didn't do the tweaks myself.I had the power amp valve connections changed-at the suggestion of the tech) as Laney apparently do something odd with theirs. He standardised them. He also adjusted it to run slightly colder.Didn't affect tone and he suggested that it would lengthen the life of the valves.As I trust his judgement and know that he only suggests things when he feels there is a good reason, I was happy to accept his advice.

Ahhh... I've read about that. Laney wire there power tubes up differently which stops you using some NOS vintage tubes. So you're now free to use Mullards! If your interested here's some blurb:
"Laney uses pin 1 on it's VC30 as a tie point for the screen resistor and the 290V supply. Ei uses a variant pinout in their EL84 common to some of the vintage 6BQ5's (GE, others) where pin 1 is tied internally to pin 2. Note that Sovtek, which comes standard in the Laney, does not use pin 1 and strictly follows the "standard" pinout. This means that Ei and many NOS EL84/6BQ5's will not work in a Laney unless it's modified. Fortunately the Laney uses point to point wiring for it's tube sockets and the change is simple. Just use pin 8 (which is unused in the Laney and is a "no connection" on most EL84's) as the tie point instead of pin 1. The amp will now work with either Sovtek, Ei, or most NOS tubes."

The reason I asked is that I heard you can modify the effects loop to act as a Master Volume. My VC30 sounds fantastic cranked, but she is one very loud beast!

Ah I get you. Yes it is a loud amp and a m/v would be an option I suppose. Mind you, it is not an amp that has to be loud to sound good-mine is usually set at about 4 at most gigs and does the job very well. At home though it is not that practical for practice though I have used it for that when the neighbours are out.
