How much is this superlead from 72 worth?

Anyone can give me a hint to the value of this one? Will it give me THE sound? Seller wants 1500 EUR, is it too much?

I would rather buy a Cornell Plexi 45/50 for that money

i see the attraction very well of these old amps :) but the others are probably right and its not exactly logical.

as a little compromise why not buy some nice NOS valves for the vintage modern?

That's very expensive for a non-plexi.  I'd say it was 500 Euro overpriced.

1500EUR is about £1150 so that would make the amp a little on the steep side.  However, it looks to be in nice condition and all original.  £1000 (1300EUR) would be tops imo AND I'd expect some Mullard or Brimars in there.

Dave, where are you seeing 100% stock PTP-wired SLPs for £750.00 ??? - they seem to be going more in the £850-900 region from what I've seen.

One thing is for sure, the price of all-original vintage Marshalls is still going nowhere but up.  I thought I'd overpaid a bit for my '76 Superbass (£500) but it seems that's a £750 amp now.

what is THE sound?
Am sure it will give THE sound of a 70's superlead.

Thats costly even by current US standards. Also, old as it is it may be abit unreliable? Maybe a copy or a 'tweaked' one would be better (i.e. been gone through by a pro alread).

However, IMO, those old amps DO have a great tone WAY better than the modern stuff. Even the old lead solder etc. (caps yadda yadda) helps alot with the sound.

This looks like a good deal HTH...

L serial number makes it, what... 78 or something?

'if' it stays at £385, then yes - a very good deal.

s/n 'L' makes it a '79

I've not seen any recently HTH, so my 500 Euro was an estimate.  I was a bit off, but I'd use that as a starting point with the seller  ;)

I just don't get this old amps thing.  To me they're just for the collectors unless you can get one cheap!

Says the guy with a fistful of very cool old Laneys! I really fancied your 60W Klipp by the way - hopefully you sold it so I don't need to think about it anymore ;)

I'm an electronics engineer, and so is my old man. I've seen enough bits of his old gear to know that old pieces of engineering - including (and especially) guitar amps - seem to get some sort of humanlike personality after a few decades.

I love the smell of these old pieces of equipment. Its a great feeling to know that something 30 years old is still able to rock hard. Feels satisfying to look after and fix them up. At least thats how I feel. Maybe its a bit like owning a classic car.

The 60w is still for sale by the way, will be on eBay at the weekend if no-one takes it beforehand  ;)
