im not going to go throw these straight into a guitar just because of this, but im curious...

what BKs would be the closest to what slash uses??? im guessing a stormy monday set with Alnico 2s in both... as the SDs he use are pretty low output alnico 2 pickups.

Im just still looking what to put in my 3 pickup SG.. i know the easy choice is a riff raff set... but i just dont want to do that... I have been warned off black dogs as it may be too dark... im just worried if i get a set of mondays (or Riff Raffs) that i may be lacking power from the bridge...

im only looking for a pretty much jimmi page / slash level of output though, tremonti maybe.

AND purely on an aesthetic level... i have a white SG... with gold hardware, i may go for zebra pickups for it.. but im just wondering what to put in the middle... i dont like the idea of a double black pickup... but then another zebra might look unbalanced to me... i may just put gold covers in.. but any ideas??

cheers, Dave.

This is starting to freak me out.

Every time i have a question on my mind lately, someone eles comes along and ask's it!

I'm after exactly the same thing you are, especially with the tremonti thing.

I personally haven't liked what i've heard of the Riff Raff's much, not really my thing, and that's all that seems to be suggested for SG's...

yea, as i cant go and test all these pickups out in my guitars... you have to go off advice really.. and im just not totally convinced by any one pickup... im not blown away by the riff raffs.... but i have been advised against the black dogs which i was going to go for originally..

Have you spoken to Tim about your question? He offers really solid advice IMO and really doesn't mind loads of questions being fired at him.
I think I hate being indecisive.

Actually I think a pair of zebras in bridge and middle with a gold covered in the neck would look quite neat. Jimmy Page style adapted to a 3-pickup sg. How about a Mule set for bridge and middle and an AII Stormy for the neck?

Edit: I kisekaed it up becasue I thought it sounded cool. I'm a geek.

I think it has too much bite though, whenever i hear clips i'm reminded of really grainy images or sandpaper or something.

Not that it's a bad pup, oh no, it's quite unique really! not my thing though!

I'd go with reverse zebra & a double cream in the middle.

I found that Alnico II Stormy Mondays sound really sweet in an S.G. !  :D

If you are worried about bridge output, then consider how nice the SMs have a unique ( and matching ) bridge voice - as opposed to raw power.

As for the p/u colours, I would go for a matching set of 3, in this case choosing gold covers to match the rest of your guitar's 'furniture'.

That is going to be one enviable guitar !

Would you say they compare well to say, the 59 Classic that gibson do? 'cause then it'd be up my street, everything i've heard so far with the Riff Raff's is too much bite for me. At least for a main guitar.

I asked tim, he mentioned Riff Raff, Stormy Monday, Warpig and Miricle Man for SG's...

Miricle Man got me thinking! i wonder how that would sound? i bet it'd be massive.

Tony, have you got a MM bridge? i may need to borrow one...

Now i want two Vintage SG's, one for Vintage tone and one for teh high gain riffage.
