Pickup color choices for a trans amber Jackson Dinky
« on: February 28, 2008, 09:43:41 PM »
Hi all,

I'm getting ready to place an order for my first set of BKP pups! The target guitar is a Jackson Dinky DK2 (made in Japan) circa 2000, transparent amber color, H-S-S configuration. I'm pretty much set on the pups themselves but I'm struggling with the color choice :)

The hardware on the guitar is a matt chrome/nickel color. Here's a close-up: (sorry, webcam quality)

I was considering open coiled zebras first, since they look cool on the amber-colored Music Man Axis, for example. But, I want something more METAL looking :)

Now, I'm thinking about a black covered bridge HB, which I think would work 100% well. Another option would be a covered nickel/chrome pickup that'd match the hardware color, it might give the guitar more visual character.

I'm wondering which of the cover colors would be closest to the hardware, hard to tell based on the sample pics. Chrome might be a bit bright since the HW is not shiny but matt (then again, a bit of bling never hurt anyone ;). Perhaps nickel / raw nickel would be closer?

Any opinions?

A lot of the distressed black covers look cool, but I think I'm going with the camos.

Btw, the bridge pup will be a ceramic Nailbomb, your sound clips had some influence on my decision :)

Really? That's awesome! It's a lovely pickup. What are you putting in the other positions?

Everyone needs to have a camo set. It's really cool how unique they are, and I think they really add character to a guitar. Also, in a shallow way, they're probably the only reason I noticed BKs in the first place!

The single coils will be Trilogy Suites. I asked Tim for an opinion and he said ceramic NB + TSs would be "excellent" - who am I to argue! ;)

It seems the ceramic nailbomb is gaining quite the notority after those clips of yours, Nolly. I'd love to hear that set in action, zf. If you have recording gear (and some time off), please grace us with some sound clips.

Yeah it seems that way! It's a great pickup, maybe it'll get the same kind of unofficial BK status as the c-Pig...

And zf, definitely post some clips!
