Hey guys,

I've decided that google is cluttered full of too much cr@p so i'll ask you guys, what websites or forums are out there that you use and are actually any good?

I want to make a list of the decent sites out there, i know of a few such as The Gear Page forums but not much else!

Post away ;) i hope.

for modders and builders like me:

www.projectguitar.com - sometimes a bit harsh with the newbies but generally good natured

www.mimf.com - very informative with a great library you can access by signing up for free.  Some people find it a bit strict but that helps to keep it so usefull

there is also a nice little UK builders forum at - seems to be building up momentum at the moment

Mmmm, doesn't sound very appealing.  :!:

There is that forum that Dave (Irish Dave) mentioned a while ago- The Tavern or something. I joined that but never stuck around.

The tavern is an offshoot of UG. Those that were hacked off with UG went there.

Likewise, I'm registered, but never go there. Could tell you what its like.

Same as me.

Check out http://www.sevenstring.org. It's a geeky but ridiculously friendly board, that caters for a lot more than seven stringers. Some very informative stuff on there.

If you're looking to improve your technique, and generally talk shred, http://www.ibreathemusic.com has a good forum with some top-notch players giving advice. There are some really good articles as well, though they haven't been updated in years. Strictly no gear discussion, and spending too much time there will turn you into a technique hyperchondriac though...

I generally steer clear of Harmony Central, but there are a lot of guys with ridiculous rigs there, so it can be a good place to get feedback about obscure gear.

read: Dave MC. whose bounteous wisdom you can access here, without having to maraud your way through virtual hordes of teenagers asking if A clothes iron will adequately perform the job of a soldering one.

"thanks and you no you need a smoldering iron"

there are plenty of good guys at UG. i'd say it's definitely getting better, just the problem is it's more a site for beginners. most people who go there have a question to ask, basically.

of course, it doesn't help that a sizable minority don't know when to shut up when they don't have a notion...

but i appreciate that you guys think i know what i'm talking about... im not convinced yet!

:)

i haven't been to HC much in the last while, but from what I could see it was getting worse? seemed to be a free-for-all in the amp forum at least. I don't mind the odd off-topic post, but when 90% of the posts in the Amp forum are off-topic...

oh, rig-talk is pretty cool. www.rig-talk.com. Kind of to HC what the tavern was to UG. But it took off more, and has some manufacturers' forums (diezel, HBE). I don't check in all that often, but it's a good place.

:)

Yeah, I gave up trying to help the n00bs at UG.

I mainly got sick of the atmosphere there though: its full of nobs so its really authoritarian. The mods are little hitlers (or were last I checked)

HC is just a big slanging match. Its a laugh, but its really, really useless. Ask a legit question and you get an 80% mix of one-word posts, abuse and derailing and 20% fairly knowledgable people that arent really willing to put the time into typing any detail.

I go there for a laugh, primarily. I visit for the OT stuff.
