Forgive my inane ramblings but I have to tell people who 'understand'

Well I went down to PMT yesterday to extend my tonal quest for a guitar to match the vintage modern.

I was looking for a slash like tone which the VM has loads of and of course this led me onto the guitar - which would have been a les paul.

I had 4 hours of guitar heaven trying out pretty much every les paul you can think of. I summarise as follows:

Les Paul standard - too bright with the burstbuckers and VM

Les paul deluxe - you would need hands like shovels to get on with this

Les paul classic - the best of the bunch tonally - hot pickups that get a lot of a slagging generally but for high octane rock they do the job well

Les paul classic antique - tonally similar to the standrad but lower output slightly and warmer but we are talking degrees here.

Then I tried a PRS singlecut trem - I do use a trem a bit in my playing and was worried about losing the feature from the les paul but hey......what an amazing guitar - tonally in the les paul ballpark but less mids more bottom end and note clarity far far superior.

But the best bit is the feel of them - the neck is incredible - feels like my deluxe strat which has the best neck of any guitar I have ever played. Build quality excellent as you would expect.

If I'm being honest the tone of the les paul classic was closer to what I am after but I just can't really get on with the gibson neck and I end up playing around it if you know what I mean. It was a tough decision but my first ever prs is on its way to me.............!!!!!!!

Blue Matteo Satin is what I went for - I think the satin is a love it hate it kind of finish but I like it.....

I now need to sell some stuff - anyone want a 57 hot rod strat - one careful owner?

That'll be the scale length change that does that. I find a similar thing with my Mira compared to my SGs.

yes it is. its almost too nice. like an ornament as apposed to a players guitars. The quilt version on an artist is like looking at water

Pictures tomorrow - its not turned up yet. It was down to blue matteo ruby or black cherry. I almost went black cherry but then thought F*ck it lets have somethig in yer face. The natural maple was very nice too

Nice choice, congratulations man. I used a Singlecut trem satin (in blue matteo, thinking about it) when I was testing an amp last month. It's a great sounding thing. Neck was a little too fat for me, but I could have got used to it, I'm sure

. It certainly convinced me I must have a PRS guitar.

Most PRSs have different neck shapes for the same model so you could be reacquainted with a Singlecut trem!

I also like my PRS SE a lot through the VM. Indeed the amp is bright and you gotta be careful - so it's a wise thing you went and looked for a matching guitar.

With the right guitar/pickup/cab combination, the VM is hard to beat. Congrats to your SC Trem, I am GASing for one since I first saw them. But I am GASing for too many things.

Tell me about your VM. 100W or 50W or Combo? What cab/speakers/FX are you using?

Well, it's very simple, whenever I play the Shiva or the Budda, and then plug into the VM, it's just more alive, more punchy, more complex, more fun, so what is not to love about it?

Takes time to dial in, but since I took back treble and dialed in some mids/bass, it's just as good as it gets.

And with the band, it's just the most amazing tone I ever had and I can even hear myself :D
