Author Topic: Volume pot prob since installing Stormy Mondays (Read 1682 times)

I recently installed a set of SMs on my Yamaha SA500 (ES335 type guitar).
They sound incredible but the volume control for the neck pickup no longer works properly; it appears to do virtually nothing until turned down to about 2 after which there is a sudded reduction in volume.
This makes this control very difficult to use effectively.
The bridge pot works fine.

I have already had it looked at by a local tech who tried a number of diffeent pots but to no avail and he just ended up scratching his head.

I'm sure there is a way around this but can anyone tell me what it is?

Interesting one. Firstly you need a new tech, they should know how to cure these things!

It sounds like the whole wiring of the guitar needs checking. Usually the pots are to blame with this kind of thing. Do you get any crackles or anything like that?

The rest of the guitar works fine, and worked perfectly before installing the SMs.
I agree about a new tech though!

Does it crackle or cut out on the affected volume pot? Is the output of that pickup lower than normal?

No, the pickup works fine, the only problem is the way the volume doesn't drop at all evenly, and trying several different pots has not helped.
