Hang on what do you mean? Clapton sucks?...how dare you......  Actually I think the whole thing that makes it sometimes difficult is that we are all typing our thoughts  and, notwithstanding emoticons, there is no easy way to express the fact that you might be expressing irony or, if not, a genuinely held view that perhaps may or may not be expressed in a more subtle way. But as some have said some people get out of their trees for no good reason. On this forum though I think the humour and general goodwill keeps things in check. Even I have had one or two run ins with people that I did not seek or expect. I have enough hassle in my day to day life without finding it on line and so I think I would tend to leave them to it. As for your situation, well I just would decide whether I could be bothered to go back and commune with them-that is up to you of course.

Agree with the whole forum thing - I actually think this one is a bit unique in that a huge majority of the posts are good natured (I can't recall a bad one in my few months on here) and everyone seems to get on.

The guy who sings in our band got pulled up on stage with Damien Rice at his Reading Hexagon gig and sung Cold Water with him (long story and I won't bore everyone with it but it was/is genuine). This story was put on to the Damien Rice forum and within minutes some of the posters on there were just downright rude and absusive about the whole thing. I reckon if one of the posters on here ever got on stage with a big name guitarist and played a song with him/her everyone would be happy for them.

BKP forum - it's a lovely place to be and now the only forum I post to.
I think I hate being indecisive.

I find this place the best forum I have found.
It is pretty calm and folks try to get along with each other.
There have been a few hotheaded incidents, but most have been smoothed over.
I have seen a number of members evolve and grow and chill out during their time here, and sometimes that has been because they were 14 when they joined and now they are a few years older, and have reacted well to the other members giving them respect and the time of day

I think it helps that a number of us have met each other here and there.
I certainly like catching up with guys from on here, whether at a guitar show , or a gig or maybe doing a spot of business or trading gear.

I think it is cool that everybody tries to communicate well and doesn't resort to Text speak much, which I cant read as I am over 40. It just makes it easier for us all to get along and understand each other.

All in all - it's a good place to be :D

I know when I first joined a while ago, I was (in no uncertain terms) an idiot. I still am, but just less so.

yeah, i feel the same way about that. i was really green when i first joined, but i knew the sound i got from my first pair of bkps sounded better when i recorded, and that was enough for me to join. i've never been a member of other forums - and having browsed through a few since then i have no desire to join ;) i learn so much from the people here. hopefully i've had some useful things to say occasionally - but not much maybe!!

For me this place is a bit like a pub, somewhere to meet your mates and chew the fat. Sometimes people get hotheaded but we can put that down to the booze (or the GAS).

I've been on the internet for a LONG time and i'd totally boycotted forums since the begining, they've always been riddled with idiocy and moronic behaviour, and it's not always people of the younger generation. i'd always prefered going on IRC and such like.

This is the only forum where i've kept coming back, i now check here many times a day and love this place to bits, i've been here a few years though i rarely ever post on anything, only just realised how often i think i've posted but havent! i'm starting to post now, even if what i say is often garbage.

I wonder if it's sad that the internet plays such a large part of my life? i talk to my friends on here, one's i know in reality and ones i dont, i find all my music on here, usually on youtube, watch other guitar players on youtube, and loads more. I guess it's the norm these days!

This is a scary reality my friend.  Becoming more attached to the computer and "net-life" than the real world.  The internet is a tool, i really have found more music online than by just chatting to people, and rightly so!  But as long as there is a good balance i don't see us delving into "The Time Machine" (H.G. Wells) anytime soon.

You can't get the feel and experience of a real live gig on t'interwebnet.  For that reason alone you can't beat the real world  ;)

This forum is indeed great and the most relaxed and respectful one that I know.  Long may it continue  :drink:

I second that sentiment. I love this forum and try to conduct myself responsibly whilst still retaining the right to a bit of good natured ribbing and banter.

Personally i think the two biggest problems are that you can't really tell if sarcasm is being used or not on the internet, and the other is that some people can't accept other peoples opinions and think that they are disrespecting their opinion by saying something different, which is a bit silly imo.

I like this forum though, it's rare you get a bust up on here, and it only happens when there is a difference in opinion which is usually gear related. When i first joined i was an arse because i was young and immature and i had only been playing guitar for a little while, but when you get older and have more experience you realise people don't want to come on here to see you shouting your opinions about and slagging off others and being a tit, they just want to chat to their forum buddies and discuss things about their number 1 passion which is playing the guitar and try to give the best possible advice to others.

I suspect the forum has mellowed you a little, this is a very chilled forum by most standards, and most people re-act to an environment, if you're the only acting like and idiot you'll stand out and no-one will talk to you.

Also most (probably all) of the posters on here are serious about their playing, even if like me it's only a hobby (and probably doesn't classify as 'playing'). I think that alone means they are more interested in genuine discussion than having a fight. Discussion = shared experience, fighting = shared idiocy.

Nearly everything I know about gear I've picked up here, and I really do trust the opinions of those who post here, even when I don't agree with them :)
