Author Topic: Locking trem WITHOUT the nut locks? (Read 1994 times)

Hey guys.

Over the last few weeks I've been trying to decide whether to sell on my Charvel now that I got the Ibanez S470. I was playing the Charvel for a while earlier and had forgotten how much of a Crunch and edge it has to the tone, which should be great for the 70s and 80s Rock I plan on playing with it 8)

I've now had the idea of blocking the guitars POS single locking trem, taking off the nut locks and treating it as a hard tail and using the machineheads for tuning.

Will this cause any problems at all or can I go ahead and do it without worry?

I don't see how it can 'cause any problems. I think i nearly did the same thing once.

do you mean just blocking the trem so it doesn't move and then not having the nut locked? if so ive done this before and it worked fine, had a block of wood underneath the trem to stop it from moving up or down.

If Paul Gilbert can do it so can you! Ibanez does make a fixed locking bridge too called the Fixed Edge. It came on one of the Mick Thompson models and I think one of the JS's.

Yup, that's pretty much my idea :)

To leave the tremolo blocked and stationary, take the nut locks off and then tune as normal on the headstock tuners.

My memory stick broke on me one day. And from then on, it became my trem block.
