What is the best wood for the Nailbomb? I was thinking a light wood. I am to make my own guitar so the wood choice is critical. What types of wood do  you guys use?

The lighter the timber the brighter the pickup tone generally...........in basswood or ash the Nailbomb will sound quite balanced..........in mahogany it'll sound very fat and full.
I personally don't build guitars but have got Nailbombs fitted in and Alder Strat where they cured the lack of bottom end nicely and I've also got them in a mahogany Vee where the tone is thick and solid.

I was thinking someting along the lines of Jeutlong or something lite, such as ash. Does anybody have a Jeutlong guitar?

Has anybody heard of Purple Heart wood? I found it while brousing Woodworkers Source.  It says that it is extreamly hard.  Does anybody have any expirience with this wood? http://www.woodworkerssource.net/index.php

It is usually used in bass necks (I have a neck through bass being built with a maple/purpleheart/maple/purpleheart/maple neck).  It is brown when you cut it but turns purple as it oxidises.  

I'm not sure that it would work as a body.

i've seen it used as the sides in acoutsic guitars as well... how could it "not work" as a body?

I would imagine that means that it may not have good resonance characteristics in the part of the frequency spectrum needed for a guitar body.  :?:  :roll:

Purpleheart as tonewood...

I have built two guitars out of purpleheart-
I wouldn't recommend it as body matierial-it's as dense as Rosewood/ebony, spendy, hard on blades, has a high wax content...
-It looks awesome, though-like oxblood Docs, or dried blood...
If you want the look, I recommend a body of maple or mahogany, and a top cap of Purple Heart, or even laminate the whole thing-
I use it mainly as stringers in neck throughs, and as binding...
-Most guitarists whine about the weight of solid PH bodies-
-wimps!-

Purple heart is normally used for bass guitars because of its thick bottom end and bright mid range, simular to bubbinga. It is usually used as laminates for necks and finger boards, But I have seen bodies made from it too.
