Rebel Yell bridge in Les Paul - Top Gun theme!
« on: March 15, 2008, 01:16:07 PM »
Well I finally got round to putting my Rebel Yell in my Les Paul, and right now I love it. In my strat and Charvel I found the lead tones to be really good but the rhythm kinda lacking. In the les paul it sounds great for both. I couldnt resist doing a Top Gun clip, so here it is

Probably used a bit too much reverb but its an 80s track so its rude not to really :P Playing is really sloppy but I had fun playing it so thats all that matters, right? I'll have a go at doing some rhythm clips later on today or this week. Heres the guitar with the RY installed, looks great I think.

damn you beat me to it.

I was just about to record this.

Nice tone, my only gripe is it sounds a tad thin but thats understandable with it being the bridge pickup.

Have had that in my head for too long. Nice clip, where is the backing track from?

Cheers for listening. I got the backing track from www.guitarbt.com - http://www.guitarbt.com/index.php?page=dl_list&cat=Steve%20Stevens

Dont know if you need to be registered to access it though. If you want it without registering I can email you it?

Transcend, I think the thinness is just due to my mic'ing technique, I cant get it in a good position anymore so it always sounds a bit thin and fizzy.

Have just been playing a load more with this pickup, took ages to get the amp dialed in cos it was set up for mules, had to put the mids down to 5 with the RY. I still prefer the Mules, they have a more vintage old rock sound which I prefer to the more modern, 80s sound of the RY. I think I'm going to keep the RY in there for a while though because I cant be bothered with choosing another BKP yet, am tempted to swap it for a VHII if anyones interested though :) I will say though, if you want 80s - the RY is perfect.

I like it Tom and I have to say I'm not hearing it to be thin at all.

Really nice bite to that, gets a good "squeal" on the harmonics.

I particularly like the reverb on the snare lol. My only critisism is that the bass guitar is too loud in the mix yo. The guitar sound is good though!

Nice Tom!

I have to say that the magazine stash under the bed is very suspicious!  :P

Told you so :P Bit dusty, I dont think I've read any of them for at least a year. Anyway, why would I pay for any of the mags you're hinting at, when I have internet access?

Cheers :) Got the mic positioning a bit better now, heres some ACDC. First on the Pearl with Rebel Yell bridge then Epiphone with Mule bridge

http://www.netmusicians.org/files/58-lps.mp3

Pretty similar sound, I find the Epiphone more fun to play with though for some reason. I think I want a plexi now though
