Alternative to a Jackson RR24...
« on: March 16, 2008, 05:55:20 PM »
Any thoughts? Was looking at buying one of these as I loved my little RX10D, but wanted an improvement, but a happy forum member said after handling one he thought it was an awful neck etc. I'd probably still go for one, but has anyone got any ideas of possible alternatives for about the same price? Preferably in the Rhoads V style (just love 'em so much   :P )

Can you try it in a shop? If so your opinion might be different to his.
I'm looking on Thomann and there are ESP Ninjas, Flying Vs by Gibson and RR5s around that price.

EDIT: Or you can buy my Jackson JS30RR, it's a string-thru though.

ironically enough - im not a huge fan of gibson style v's, i much prefer the rhoads. the problem with the rr5 is its without a floating trem which i'd prefer. the ninjas are okish - but again the decent ones are string through which i'd rathre not do as i'd like a trem

I agree with trying one yourself.  I played one in a shop & thought it was a nice instrument - a lot of guitar for not a lot of money.  The neck was certainly very nice to play on, similar profile to a US Jackson with a nice low buzz free action.

I don't think there's an alternate if:

1. You want the Randy Rhoads V shape, so that means only RR models
2. You want 24 frets
3. You want a tremolo

Can you try out the RR24?

Plus I think it's called the RR24 cause it has 24 frets.

Ha! I didn't mean to put you off buying one!

I really just meant don't pay for one without having played it, because I know we have taken a lot of orders for them by people who haven't and it struck me as massively overpriced for what it is with a horrible neck when the first of those arrived.

The RR5's are a far better guitar in my book, but don't have the floating trem. In fact, I reckon the RR3 is probably a better instrument too - and you'd have more money left over to buy the daft case you'll need

the laiho is appealing, but i'd much rather spend a bit more and get something with a neck-through tbh. i know im finicky, but i love neck through stuff when ive played it and ive only ever had cheaper versions of models with bolt ons
