Is anyone else really annoyed by Nickelbacks song ROCKSTAR??

Well... put it this way then, can you name a better pop-rock MAINSTREAM band of modern times than Nickelback? (I bet you can't)

Alter Bridge for a start, although I admit they're a heavier outfit altogether.

But I'm not sure where pop-rock ends and "non-pop" rock begins really, or what's mainstream and what isn't.  

I'd certainly rather listen to Nickelback than My Chemical Romance, Good Charlotte or all those endless pop-punk clone bands.

Yeah Alter Bridge are probably metal. But I agree- Alter Bridge are fantastic - and I would prefer them over Nickelback.

I agree with not knowing what's pop-rock or what's mainstream (I hate the endless sub-genres and compartmentalism (is that a word?) of music), but basically I just mean a modern-day band that's 'popular' or 'big.' You're last sentence hit the nail on the head:

but ACDC's songs weren't consciously constructed to be EXACTLY the same, so they sell well.
Did anyone ever see that MP3 that someone made with a 'different' one of their hit songs panned each way, and both songs were in the same key, the same length, and had the same structure. All that had changed was some of the chords and the lyrics.

The band can be ok, can only really listen to about 3 songs though, they sound way to saaamey after that. It seems all he does is have an acoustic guitar and play barre chords or something... (I find that gets a little boring)

Thirdly, as I said last time there was a big hoo-haa about Nickelback- how many songs have you actually listened to?!?! They are much more diverse than you all make out, ranging from very metal-esque songs to acoustic ballads. You've just got to see past their radio-friendly side.
