Haha i was about to say who are they? But, then my mate just now asked me to go to that, because he is the nephew of the guitarist from Praying Mantis who are also playing it turns out. He gave him a frikkin Caparison and he doesn't even play guitar! Though i managed to nab it for a while to 'restring' it for about 3 months haha.
Might see you there!

I figured it was British Steel. Lineup isn't as good as last year's. Went to it last year. It has a very homey, underground feel. You'll enjoy it. Make sure to bring your denim jacket, camera and knowledge of very obscure metal. Also, bring some money for the LP/vintage magazine vendors.

Do they test you before they'll let you in?

I'd probably be OK on the denim jacket (Ritchie Blackmore's Rainbow cover embroidered on the back) and scr@pe through on the knowledge of very obscure metal.  I can't manage the straggly wisps of long hair surrounding a growing bald patch, though.

I'm a bit tempted to go to this, actually.

Well, you know you like it at least :) I think thats all you need.

What about making this a sort of informal BKP gathering? Then at least I'll know some people there 8)

I don't do denim jackets, just leather ones.

That would be cool, we could just rush the stage and start playing some Priest!

this was a GIG. witchfynde really laid it down - and so did mantis to be fair, although i was there to see witchfynde and i wasn't dissapointed.

after mantis finished their great set the crowd went to the bar, and i went straight to the front of the stage next to where i thought montalo, the guitarist, would be standing. i was happy to see the roadies bringing out montalo's amp, and seeing it was a JMP series master volume like mine.

i was really getting into their set, and after a couple of tracks some of the crowd, including me i'm happy to say, was given a signed poster. then they played a new song, and at 10 quid i will definately be buying their new album since the track was well up to the quality of their 80s material.

montalo kept tripping over his set list, so i got this as a souvenir as well. but the danish guy behind me asked if he could have it, and so i gave it to him as i thought "oh! i have the poster" and he seemed like a nice guy.

but this wasn't all. towards the end of the set i had the singer thrust the microphone towards me and i found myself singing a couple of lines of whatever track it was they were playing over the PA.

my evening was already made - but to top it off when they put out the three candles they'd lit for atmosphere, montalo cermoniously gave me the center one. i was pretty shocked - i reckon this is the best souvenir of all. i shall be keeping this for a long time.

witchfynde may not be that famous, but they are one of my favourite bands, and montalo's guitar playing has inspired me a great deal over the last couple of years i've got into them. its not the standard NWOBHM style, theres a lot going into what he is doing. unusual barre chords, chordal based solos, a bit of shred, whammy bar action, typical NWOBHM catchy power chord stuff and of course loads of mysterious sounding natural and pinched harmonics. despite what could be considered at times to be quite indie-guitar techniques, montalo still has total metal attitude, and of course it still sounds like metal - but something a little different.

my girlfriend even liked them as well 8)

That gig was better than i expected, i was there to see Mantis and they played a frikkin' awesome set, i didn't know any of their songs but after 1 chorus i already knew the lyrics, so catchy!
The last band was pretty damn good too, and i started the mosh pit for it!
