Custom Warpig, Pig-90, Alnico V Warpig Comparison Clips
« on: March 31, 2008, 07:02:35 PM »
I just got my new warpigs installed in my SG and decided to record some clips that would show a comparison of the three pups in my guitar. they are; a Custom Pig in the bridge, a Pig-90 in the middle, and an Alnico V Pig in the neck. They all sound awesome, but here is a comparison to give you an idea of what each one sounds like playing the same riff. The guitar is tuned to C except on 'Rhythm 2' where it is tuned down to B. The quality is low due to only being able to record through a computer mic run into a souncard.

Alot of these are improvised so forgive the shotty playing please!

Somebody sure likes their Sabbath....good because so do I!

Even through that recording setup I could tell that's a top notch Sabbath tone there.  Spot on.  What amp are you running through?

Some of those were crushing as fvck!  Especially the first couple, you can tell that the tone, once out in the open will slice through small infants and the elderly     I know you wish you had better recording gear, and so do i, i don't feel like the the alnico or Pig-90 came through in their natural brutality.  I really haven't heard any of the Pig-90 so naturally i would love a clearer sampling - anybody else got one?  The Ceramic sounded the best, or at least the most crushing

Tony Iommi would be proud.

Damn what a sick tone. Did I mention that guitar is EVIL?

Thanks guys.
The Ceramic Pig is awesome and I have had it for about a year now. It provides alot of cut and a little more bite than the other pigs making it sound a little more "in your face".

The rig I play through is a DHA Effects VT2 Fatguts (which is a dual 12AX7 preamp distortion) run in the FX loop of a Marshall MG100DFX. It is fed a little dirt from the OD1 channel which serves as a boost pedal and adds girth and 'chunk'. The amp is fed into a 4x12 cabinet with Celestion drivers.

The amp isn't all that great but I'll be getting a Matamp GT1 in June as a graduation present so all should be well then. Besides, In my opinion, good tone is subjective and is found more in the fingers than in the gear.
