New car day.
« on: April 09, 2008, 09:48:53 AM »
I started a new job a few months ago and my new company car came at the start of March.  Unfortunately though, Mrs Tonemonkey crashed her car not to long after and ended up driving my old car to and from work every day (a round trip of about 70 miles).

Although I love my old car to bits (a 20 year old BMW 3 series), she's not very keen at all and so we have been looking for something second hand for her to thrash about.  We were supposed to go and see a Toyota Celica the other night but she changed her mind (and the budget   ).  Now I've got 2 Toyota dealers batteling it out to secure my order for a brand new Toyota Aygo Platinum.  Got to admit, I'm really looking forward to getting this car, kind of expecting it to be like an old mini and I'm going to thrash the nuts off it.

So as soon as I sell the BMW (£450 if anyone wants it - 6 disc changer, 62k on the clock with all old recipts and MOT's - honest to god, it's a bargin), it'll be the first time that we've had 2 cars on the drive that are less than 10 years old.  Normally there are 2 old cars on the drive and one that is on some state of post-crashness and brokenness.

In fact while writing this, one dealer has just phoned me back and said that I have squeezed them down to £78 profit and that it before I got them to fill up the tank and do me a discount on some mats.  Going to hit them with the roof spoiler when the other dealer comes back with their offer.
Advice worth what you just paid for it.

Sounds like a good price for that car with 62k on the clock. I was going to get an old beemer as like you say, you can pick up some good bargains.

I bought a car late last year that I've always wanted. I got a Mazda 6 Sport 2.0 Turbo Diesel. It's really good and is great to drive. Plus a built in Bose stereo, which is nice!

Yeah man, they're nice motors I love Japanese cars.

Just put a deposit down on the Aygo.  Taken the dealer to the cleaners.  Gonna go and squeeze more out of it tomorrow   8-9 weeks for delivery though

I'm looking forward to thrashing the balls of the little thing (although the wife says I'm not allowed to drive it).

I've got the AYGO TV catchphrase stuck in my head... "T4, sponsored by the Toyota AYGO" or something. I have no idea why that's so memorable!  :?

If you were selling the BMW in about 6 months from now I would be interested, as I'll be on the lookout for a car then.

(Although I just got an insurance quote for it for a driver of my age, and it came in at no less than £6000!!! )
