Help! Got my nailbombs 7's - about to be ditched by girl
« on: April 10, 2008, 06:43:34 PM »
hello
new to the forum. just installed my first set of BKP...
after months of looking at my Nailbomb 7 set whilst finishing my guitar, I can finally say that these are by far the best pickups I ever had the pleasure of owning or playing. only problem is now I play so much that my girlfriend will soon be tired of all the noise and lack of attention. oh well...
articulate, crispy, aggressive and crystal clear. their midrange is concentrated on the upper mids and the relative lack of lower mids make them sound "airy", plus beautifully round bass and cutting treble make this pickup very tight.
they have gone into my maple / wenge neck through 7 string, and what I feared  would be an "ice pick" guitar happened to be the most articulate metal beast to ever roam the face of my house   , and quite surprisingly kind of strat sounding when tapped  8)

thank you Tim for this most excellent pickup. I will never buy another pickup.
Thanks, Binya

here are the pics, sound clips to follow soon:

Awesome work with that guitar, reminds me of the old Ibanez Voyager guitars, but far more metal :) The inlays aren't my personal taste, but the guitar looks great nonetheless. Got any pics of the back?

Glad you're enjoying the BKPs, once you've tried them, you won't go back!

yes. there were a few glitches along the way but its the first one I built from the start up so I'm cutting myself some slack there.
I'll build a flawless one in about 547 years if all goes according to plan

its pretty standard actually. 48mm. the proportions between the body (which is relatively small) and the neck (which is a very standard 7 string - which means relatively wide) fools everyone into thinking I have giant hands
muhahahaha. evil plan is a success

That is one sick axe.  I usually hate Abalone, but those things look ACE!  I bet the nut looks wider because of how the dots are spaced.  I am very interested in Wenge.  What are the tonal properties like?  I have heard lots of sustain and such, rich, etc.  What's the consensus?  i usually don't like the look of sliced up guitars but that one is well nice!
BKPz: Nailbomb+VHII, more to come...

about wenge:
the warmoth wood description says "The tone is balanced with great mid presence and attack".

http://www.warmoth.com/guitar/options/options_bodywoods.cfm
http://www.warmoth.com/guitar/necks/necks.cfm?fuseaction=guitar_neckwoods

its a beautiful wood but a pain to work with. I think it should be regarded as the toughest material on earth and  be used mainly for warhammers (see Konan's final battle agains Thelsa Doom)

seriously though, if you are prepared to deal with this wood (or have someone else do it), the outcome is very rewarding. infinite sustain and midrange punch. its like the black version of swamp ash.

I plan on building a swamp ash body / wenge neck 8 string in the future     , but its only in the fantasy stage at the moment   . of course it will be equipped with BKP's after my recent revelation. (the money for the BKPs is also in the fantasy stage right now   )

its the splinters i hate.

but too nice to dismiss because of a few splinters - it seems to work its way into a lot of my guitars recently even if its just a veneer in a glue join or a neck laminate

the guitar looks nice but to me i am not sure the angular cutaway suits the flowing lines, dont matter though - i bet it sounds killer

agreed on the splinter issue.
all you have to do is work with a pair of metal shark-feeding gloves and you're good
