Has anyone been watching the new Jools Holland show? Don't know if it's just me but I have found it reeeeeeeeeeeeeeeaaaaaally boring so far. I only managed to watch about 10 minutes of it last night before getting really bored. I even scanned for anything vaguely interesting using Sky+ but couldn't find anything at all!!

I don't know if it's because I was in a bad mood or not but it really annoyed me. I even shouted at the TV.

we watched it just because Ed harcourt was on - but he only did one song with somebody else and none of his own material!!.. Criminal really because Ed's a great singer songwriter i would expect to have been on jools before... but his first time was with somebody else.

the rest of it was really dull..i mean... the kooks for fraks sake!!!

I didn't see Ed Harcourt on there - who was he playing with? I'm a bit gutted that my impateince meant I missed him - but not as gutted as I would have been if he had played one of his songs.

I got tired with the amount of urban / fake soul singers that he features, along with the sheer amount of obscure 'world music'

I like music from other cultures but not every bloody week !

As for the number of Mary J Bilge (sic) / Amy Whinehole and other females who use 10 notes when 1 would do (while calling dogs in the ultrasonic audio range)

Agreed 100%. But that's the kind of music those would-be hipster media personalities he always chats to are into. You can bet their CD collections fit on one shelf and include token examples of Billie Holiday, Nina Simone, Tony Bennett, Frank Sinatra, a bit of African stuff and the Buena bloody Vista bloody Social Club. Plus a bit of Take That and Robbie Williams which they pretend they only bought to be ironic :roll: . Oh, aren't they cool. Tossers.

I can't stand Jools to be honest. I hate it when he jams with his guests - amazing how tired old boogie woogie piano fits in with any style of music, isn't it? And (now I've started) has he actually changed his clothes in the last 20 years? He must have entire wardrobes full of charcoal jackets and dark-blue shirts with white buttons. :x

I hate it when he asks his guests the most stupid questions. For a guy who has been doing the show for so long you would think he would be a bit more polished and have something more meaningful to say/ask. Instead he just blabbers on about nothing imparticular and it all ends up a bit uncomfortable for all involved. He had Robert Plant on in the last season and the interview was very bad. Very bad indeed.

And he also has to stop pretending the Hootenanny is live* - WE ALL KNOW IT'S NOT JOOLS SO GIVE UP THE LYING!!!!

And another thing. Please stop having Lenny Henry and Ade Edmondson (pretending to be drunk) on as special guests - it gets very tiresome after the tenth time.

Got to agree with you chaps I'm afraid. As I've grown up I've started to find Jools a bit pretentious and annoying really to be honest. :(

The show itself is a good CONCEPT; an eclectic mix of good music, played live, with interviews, collaborations and one-off performances. But I usually end up turning it off within about 5 minutes nowadays. I don't know whether that's just the choice of artists or what, but it's missing something.

Oh and as you say Ian- his interviews are HORRENDOUSLY boring and shallow. Or as Al Murray would put it- "TV Chat Show blah-blah". :(

I just use SKY+ and skip the cr@p bits ;)

That must get it down to about 5 or 6 minutes, given that he never has more than one guest worth listening to...

And why is Dr. John on the show about 3 times every series?

This is exactly what I do. Agree with Philly Q that it reduces viewing time to 5 minutes at the most though!
