The drunk, The lonely and the insane.
« on: April 12, 2008, 11:42:49 PM »
I Phil Donovan hereby open a thread for the above formentioned in a vein attempt to have some level of decent conversation tonight or any other night.
I have done my best to get through a botlle of of Jim Beam tonight and it's been fun but it left both my wife and I questioning the relevance of marriage and I probably wasn't overly prepared for what I heard, having said that she spoke the truth. Now in my slightly dampened mood I post here trying to strike up a conversation that might take me into the early hours of the morning.
I set the mood, you reply. I might not answer for a while.

Cheer up Don. Remember Fantaxalent? If my memory serves me correctly you were the one that coined that term... and for that I am forever in your debt.  :)

I'm really sorry to hear all of that :( I'm starting to think Jim Beam isn't always the great guy he pretends to be

Dont get me wrong, Jim is a great guy and my wife and I will be together for a long time yet, its just funny hearing someones genuine opinion on matters, including your own and also, being wrecked serves up some level of self pity for us all ( probably undeserved) even if the nights beens good'un. It didn't help that I proceeded to put on Damien Rice for some "mellow music" mid sesh, bound to lower the tone of any conversation.
Fantaxelent it is Sambo, how appropriate that you should be the first to reply to this thread. How you doing?

I'm doing good, man, thanks. Hope you're doing better than the theme of the thread suggests mate. :)

And despite being a teenager I can still identify with what you're saying. Getting someone's genuine opinion on something that had never crossed your mind or never come up properly in conversation can be an odd experience, as can hearing your own opinion spoken aloud as well.

As for the Damien Rice- needless to say that's a one-way ticket to glumsville. Reminds me of one time on a ship in Bristol... but that's another matter entirely.

There is only one thing to do here and that is have another drink. Feeling a bit glum myself today for various reasons but have just got in from a gig in a local pub where it is just a few minutes drive away. Feeling tired and irritable even though I played reasonably well. Gotta get up early and traipse around a trade show in London with Mrs 38th tomorrow-gonna be dull and tiring. I have some rather nice Japanese malt whisky to try and then I shall go to bed. I haven't helped much but I share your sense of melancholy which is comforting I hope.

I have a bad habit of listening to Radiohead when I'm in a bit of a glum mood, so I can sympathise :-\

'Babe I'm Gonna Leave You' by Led Zeppelin is the worst song I've encountered for inducing bouts of depression. Radiohead, David Gray and Damien Rice are all good alternatives.    :(

Thank you 38th, just the ticket, thats the wavelength.
Sambo, your age is indifferent, you know what it is, even my son had it about him today and he is only 6 years old, as for the title of the thread, think of it as a celebration for the wallowers, melancholy ain't such a bad place.

Seems everyone is having a bad day. Including me.

For me, it's the other half losing faith. And not in a religion sense. She's lost faith in herself and that's somewhat put me in a downer. Seeing as I'm supposedly meant to bring the joy to her, and I feel like I did the damage instead.

When that sort of stuff happens I wish I could magically appear at a bar, with a drink in hand with a friend at my side. Me to pour my worries out, fill it up with alcohol and have a nice walk in the cool midnight air.

Then again it has happened. And it has helped. But seems it doesn't keep it away forever.

If only I had something to drink I'd be joining you two. Unfortunately there's no alcohol in the house at the moment- glass of water it is I suppose! *sigh*

Water sucks Sambo, never be without booze. Stash a bottle of nasty whiskey under your bed for special ocassions and your life will improve tenfold.

I've 'borrowed' bottles of my parents wine on several occasions like this. But I think a true melancholy purist uses spirits and spirits alone to drown sorrows.
