what do people say to the styling of the new steinberger?
« on: April 15, 2008, 11:36:32 AM »
i'm not really sure about its styling myself, but i sort of like it. it looks a bit join the dots.

http://www.musiciansfriend.com/document?cpd=0OEY&doc_id=99371&base_pid=481943&index=0

it has a trans-trem bridge by the way. i probably won't be buying one though.

oh - the cool thing about this version of the trans-trem bridge is that you can top mount it - it doesn't have to be at the edge of the gutar body. it could be fitted to alot of other guitars.

with vicious routing van halen had a trans-trem equipt les paul. you could do the same with the new bridge, but without a rout anything like so radical. i wonder what guitars epiphone will fit it to.

My initial reaction was UGH! but after looking at all the pics it does have a sort of hi-tech appeal, somehow.  It is basically an ugly shape though, the horns look weird and does it really need a leg-rest?

The TransTrem didn't always look like that did it?  It's quite Kahler-ish.

(Edit: Just seen your second post about the trem!)
BKPs I've Got:  RR, BKP-91, ITs, VHII, CS set, Emeralds
BKPs I Had:  RY+Abraxas, Crawlers, BD+SM

that was my first thought - does it need a leg rest? ;)

no, the trans-trem didn't always look like this. its a new design comissioned by epiphone for this model, and likely future guitars.

So was mine, and will probably continue to be until I die  :D

TBH, I think I'd like to see one in the flesh before I condem it to the ugly pile.
Advice worth what you just paid for it.

I really like that shape & the finish looks really nice.  I'm not keen on that black plasticy looking lump at the end of the neck though.

I'd like to say also that it would look better with a headstock.

Possibly like the Music Man one but not so natty and a bit sharper, shaped kind of like WezV's Veteran design.

The body I can live with but I would prefer side-mounted knobs as it's just a better way of doing things I think  .
I too use chicken as a measurement.

+1, but I'll condem it now. Even great wood with a great finish won't save it.

I like it.

I think that it's better than the '80s shape.  And I like that too, ever since Reeves Garbrels played one in Tin Machine.

Looks awesome!

I was going to look at the Steinberger Spirit models - How much would one of these new ones set you back?

The rather funnily named Lap Flap is a bit odd.

EDIT: and the black on isn't as ugly.

they don't sell any Spirits new anymore... except an L series copy, which is out of stock anyway.

http://www.musicyo.com/brandpos.asp?dept_id=3&Series=GT-PRO%20Series

maybe i would rather take a Hohner GT3 if I wanted a new L series copy.

Spirits do come up on ebay from time to time, there has been a few recently.

The shape of the new one is growing on me a bit, maybe if they did one in flat white. it might be nice to play around with a trans trem.
