Volume Pot Tuning
« on: April 16, 2008, 05:39:41 PM »
So that's what I did on my Edwards LP (VHII set):

Bridge: 220KOhm Carbon Comp resistor and 500 pf Silver Mica cap in parallel between pin 1 and 2 on the volume

Neck: 330 pf Silver Mica cap between pin 1 and 2 on Vol

Sounds pretty good. I think it's neutral when the volumes are full on (would  that make sense?) and it does very well preserve the treble when rolling back. On the neck, the taper has changed a bit, but overall it seems to be an improvement on both pickups.

Guess I need to play around with it a bit more as well on some other guitars, but think I just opened a new door for some nice sound improvement experiments :O)

There is not so much consistent info in the web on this topic and it seems you can find equally many people recommending pro and con this mod.

it's called 'treble compensation' and is very popular mod for strats. btw. it will sound neutral on full volume as cap is shorten in this case. the resistor changes curve of the pot. i think it makes it more log.
