JSX clip using the Nailbomb 7/Coldsweat 7's doing some Satch
« on: April 28, 2008, 11:02:09 PM »
finally getitng my act together and recorded something using my Carvin DC727 7 string with the Nailbomb at the bridge and a coldsweat at the neck.
this is a Satch tune called "Flying in a Blue Dream."
I used my JSx at very low volume so I had a little trouble getting feedback, but I thought the Nailbomb really nailed his tone on this clip.

I love these pickups, they're so freaking versatile and musical  :D

It's Good!!!

Sorry, the NFL draft was yesterday...it's better than good!!
What woods are used in the Carvin?  Are both pickups Alnico V?  I'm thinking about this setup for my 7 but am wondering if it ever gets "muddy."  The tone is amazing.  Perfect Satch tone.  Do you play any heavier music with this setup?

thanks!
My Carvin is all Mahogany with a maple top, birdseye maple neck with SS frets on it and an OFR.
the Nailbomb and the Cold Sweat are both Alnico.
Thru my Rectoverb this thing is a metal machine, I'll try to record some Nevermore or Petrucci stuff with it so you can check it out.
These pickups have turned this into my main guitar for playing just about everything now.
they handle different amounts of gain really well.

Very nice! I'd love if you made some more

Petrucci next?

Can you tell me how you recorded it as I'm trying to decide what gear to get

That would be Ace!  Or you could do both.  Take your time, I won't be able to afford a set until I sell some gear anyway. :wallbash:

It doesn't sound like the original to me tone wise but nice playing and I really enjoyed your own take on it. Where did you learn it? I am planning to learn some satriani myself soon.

Really?
I thought it captured the sound pretty well.
oh well :(
I learned this by ear, I have 3 or 4 live versions of it and I just used pieces of each one that I liked. The "Amazing Slow downer"
works wonders when learning stuff by ear.
I'm really not all that happy with the way I played this take but I liked the tone so I just went with it.

Good stuff mate! I'd say the tone was very close to the original, but better. Satch's tone on that song sounds a bit too fuzzy for my liking, this is the tone he should of had. Nice work!

Great clip, and I really like your tone!!  I had no idea that those pickups were so versatile.

Aside from some intonation issues, Im very impressed, excellent job!

Id agree its not exactly Satch tonewise, but you certainly have that crunchy/smooth/almost lo-fi Satch distortion spot on.

Its one song I never got around to learning as I could never be bothered to retune a guitar for the rhythm part!

Really, really great job  8)
