Epic change of amps
« on: April 29, 2008, 06:40:58 PM »

I did a straight trade with my Laney VC50 for a Laney VH100R, and after 10 days of waiting i finally got the cab to go with it which i got from imuso.co.uk. It sounds awesome, i was a bit skeptical about the Celestion Seventy 80's in the cab, and it is still the honeymoon period, but right now they are sounding great and i my favorite sound so far is the the clean/slightly overdriven sound. May change them out in the future for my metal needs but i'm happy with them right now. :D

It's a great amp, you can get any sound you want out of it. Cab is very important too though, so i'd look through all the different brands and maybe try some to see which one's suit you.
TBH with my cab i bought it with the intention of swapping out the speakers  at some point because i was originally going to get a Framus 2x12 with V30's, but then i thought Laney would probably be built a hell of a lot better, and also it matches the amp head. :)

Nice to see a picture / hear about the cab Joe.

I have just ordered one from imuso myself,   to replace a  Matamp 4x 12 I'll no longer need now I'm not gigging.

I was also ( in theory ) unsure of the Celestion seventy 80s, but as I had recently heard an equally affordable pair of Celestion 'Hot 100's which sounded beautiful, I decided that it was certainly worth a gamble .
Certainly the cab construction, size  and cosmetics are perfect for my Laney LH50R-II ( and small house ).

Enjoy your new gear Joe !  :D

Im going to be joining the Laney camp at some point and this is the set up i'd probably go for!

Though i can only afford a second hand GH50L at the moment... i think i need a clean channel to be honest.

Anyone got a VH100R s/h going cheap? :)

Looks great!

Why don't you contact Laney and see if you can get the new style logo to swap with the one on your head?  You'd have a fully matching 1/4 stack then  ;)

That head was something quite special. You could quite literally do anything with it. And yeah the Mid gain tones were awesome, you could get a very Eric Johnson kind of tone with that.

Haha, you read my mind Twinfan. I was actually just about to do that! :D

@ Fourth Feline: Yeh it's a real nice cab, it's so much smaller than i expected i have only had a Marshall 1936 before this and it was huge!
I had Celestion Classic Lead 80's in my VC50 combo and according to the Celestion site the Seventy 80's are based on them so i figured i may aswel give it a go.

@ Steve: Yeh this amp is awesome, so versatile and i would recommenced it to anyone who needs an amp to cover a variety of sounds.

If that's true that's a bloody bargain £299 is less than half what I paid for it (albeit I got mine from musicground).

VH100R rules. As been said you can get such a variety of tones from it. Very versatile gigging amp.

Don't use one but know a chap who does. Great amp.... and if you can get one for 300 quid then that's a ridiculous bargain!

I got rid of my VH100R a few days ago, i just didn't use it after i got my JCM900's. It had nice cleans, but i just never really clicked with it.
