Neck shootout part 2a: leads/strumming (VHII, NB & MM)
« on: April 30, 2008, 12:02:03 PM »
Had an hour of the house to myself, so here's a quick attempt to complete my earlier neck shootout.  The only one I haven't done is the PK.

I think that all my amp settings were the same as when I recorded the HD/CS clips (with a 15-month old toddler rampaging around the house, you find very few things as you left them ) although the cleans seem "grittier" than the earlier clips, so perhaps the ch1 gain was up a bit.

Also, I nailed the solo on the first take in the nailbomb clip (no pun intended), then realised that I'd left the chorus pedal on :( at which point I lost patience, tried it again, made a pig's ear of it & thought "f_ it, that'll have to do!"

Guitars
PRS Singlecut w/VHII neck
Gibson Les Paul std w/Nailbomb neck
Gibson Les Paul std w/Miracle Man neck

Amp: Engl Savage 120 head, Mesa Recto 2x12" cab (vintage 30s)
FX: MXR M134 chorus & TC Electronic G-Major (cleans only)
Mic/Recording: Shure SM57, Presonus Bluetube DP, Fostex MR16HD

Anyway, Enjoy :)

Cheers, Antag. It seems you did the bright ones last time and the dark ones now. I really like the VHII.

Saving the Painkiller for some ultimate time-warp face-melt shred are ya?

Yeah, the more I've played my PRS side-by-side with other guitars while making these clips, the more I realise what a great neck pickup the VHII is.  It's such a good match for the high gain BKPs & I'll probably get 2 more of them instead of CSes for my Flying Vs...

I probably won't bother recording this clip with the PK.  There doesn't seem that much interest in it.

However there is a clip idea just starting to develop that may or may not include some PK neck lead action... :)
