Got Tim's opinion-what do you think

Told tim I needed a tight ,articulate pickup for deathmetal( tuned to A standard ) And he suggested a ceramic  Cold Sweat. I know Tim knows his shite,but I would have thought  painkiller or pig. What do you guys think,anyone using a cold sweat for DM. Thanks

The Cold Sweat does do well in low tunings.  I tune to B standard (BEADF#B) with 13-60's & the Cold Sweat does the job very very well.  Trust Tim.  He's like Yoda, but with pickups instead of the force.

is it mid heavy like a painkiller or more scooped like a riff raff, duncan custom or bill lawrence?

you didn't mention the guitar the pickup is going to. That makes a whole lot of difference 8)

About the Cold Sweat midrange, I have my calibrated set on order (3 weeks surpassed..no pickups yet). The final battle was between the Rebel Yell and Cold Sweat, and here's how Tim described the difference:

quote: "both RY and CS are medium output-the CS is marginally hotter with a smoother mid and more bite in the highs whereas the RY has a more aggressive mid and is sweeter in the high end."

And that's what I heard too when I listened to the various clips.

slightly scooped, but it's still incredibly well balanced

Yeah, Tims always right on the ball advising my pickups.

I went with something un-advised once. Didnt like it. Sent it back and got what tim said in teh first place (nailbombs for painkillers).

But yeah,

I play quite a bit of very detuned, fast, techy stuff (or try to) and I use ceramic pig, overwound miracle man and painkiller for it.

The CS has pretty meaty spec though. its not right up there, but I've heard some great metal clips with them. Its certaily very tight.
