Tech botched my new pickup wiring job :(

Hi, I've just had my warpigs installed by a tech who I asked to give me the same switching abilities as my other guitar (same model) which has duncans in it.

THe problem is that hes gone and installed the BKPs by matching the colours with the duncans which is obviously wrong and everything sounds totally screwy (middle positions sound loudest, bridge and neck are thin).

Could anyone tell me what each wire is equal to in terms of colour between the two brands? e.g

BKP__Duncan
Red=?
Green=?
Black=?

etc?

Thanks in advance to anyone who can help.

P.s. the guitar has a normal 5 way, one vol, and one tone.

BKP...................Duncan
Red...................Black
Green...............White
White................Red
Black.................Green

So with the BKP the red wire goes to the tag of the switch, the black wire goes to the back of the pot  and the green and white can be soldered and taped off if you want to keep it simple.. I think its the same colour code as gibson for BKP's

sack the tech, i am guessing you got installation instructions with your pickup and even if you didnt it would have only taken him two seonds of research to find the relevant colour codes - Its in the FAQ on the main page!!

Not too harsh at all.
Nothing short of careless, incompetence. You don't need that when installing pickups of this quality. If they had any idea, they would have heard something was wrong the minute they tested it.
It's not hard to do yourself - just takes a little bit of reading to understand it and some practice with the iron.

yeah but i have had those days when a simple pickup install turns into a real biatch... so i am forgiving of techs that occasionally make mistakes.. unforgiving of ones that dont offer to put it right

"I'm paying you to install some pickups, not to screw up my guitar - Get it fixed."

I would take it to get it fixed, but I only decided to have the tech do it based on my fear of incompetance and fear of messing up. If the tech is going to mess up this badly (HE ALSO BROKE THE NECK PICKUP RING AND FUDGED UP MY JACK SOCKET!) I couldn't possibly be much worse.

I can use a soldering iron so I've decided that I'm going to do it myself. I only payed someone to do it, to be on the safe side and that backfired, so I might aswell let someone I trust do it.

You should name and shame the guy - sounds like a right tool.

I do hope you never paid him for the work, he's damaged your guitar and not done the job you paid him to do.

BKP...................Gibson
Red...................Red
Green...............White
White................Green
Black.................Black

Won't make any difference for coil-splitting, but I guess it would for series-parallel.

And I agree with HTH, you should name and shame the guy - at least as a warning to anyone else in your area who might use him.  To not even consider the fact that manufacturers use different colour coding is idiotic - and there's the other damage he did.
