Just been looking into EMA for college this year.

I think it's ridiculous. All the lowlifes from my school who are going no where get £30 a week to spend on drugs and alcohol. I`m from a decent family which earns over the £30000 limit a year and I get nothing. Honest hard working people getting no rewards and then all the lazy ones get money. How many spend it on educational things I wonder...

I think the idea is flawed.

The whole point of the EMA scheme is not to be spent on education but to be an incentive to continue in your education as opposed to taking out the dole.
It also doubles to give people from less advantaged backgrounds than yours some cash to spend on themselves rather than the family struggling to provide for their children and make ends meet.
I am on the lowest rung of EMA (borderline between the lowest and second lowest) and I supplement it with some skittle picking work at the local pub to fund my music.

By the sounds of things you don't actually need an EMA and if you did get it I doubt you would do anything much different to us 'lazy' people.

Try thinking about it from the perspective of the people who benefit from the scheme rather than your own viewpoint as no one can see the world properly if they rely purely on their own views IMO.

I was talking about my school not you or anyone else. It's full of lowlifes, trust me on that.

According to the EMA site it should be spent on education and equipment. Whilst all my friends are out spending their EMA on fun stuff I won't be able to go with them cos my parents can't afford to give me same amount.

I just think there should be rewards for people like me who go to school everyday and work hard.

I don't get EMA but if your parents earn more than that why do you need it?

Some of my mates get it and spend it on drugs and alcohol but tbh you can't do anything about that, at least it means they can't complain when they have no money.

Oh yea, when I go to college, I will need to get the bus twice a day at least. It's like £5 a day, it racks up.

That's not an answer to my question really, i said why do you need it. And i'm sure you wouldn't be spending it on your education either

Edit: well the idea is that you're parents earn enough to be able to pay for the bus for you.

They won't though as they think my allowance should cover it. But that gets spent on other things such as clothes and the bus into town. I can't be going to college naked now can I?

Well i expect they also think that people your age should be getting jobs and paying for stuff by themselves, either that or tell your parents to give you more haha.

I go to college and back everyday with my car but i don't blame the government for not giving me money for petrol.

There is no incentive for me to go to college really though... sure I want some good qualifications but the cost for me to get them is expensive, I`ll also need food money everyday. Over two years it will be alot of money. I can't afford all these costs. Better get busking.

Packed lunch solves the money for lunch. Seriously though, just get a part time job and you'll be sorted, i got one when i was 16 and i've never needed to ask for money since.

college is 9-5:30 then 2 hours home on the bus. Where will I get time?

This is hilarious.

Your family presumeably earns at least £30 more per week, than the families of those getting EMA.

As such, you don't need EMA.

Claiming that all EMA goes to lowlifes is $%&#ing insulting, that's literally saying all people who have less than £30k per year income, are low lives.

I have close friends who I didn't even know earned EMA, since they were embarassed about their family incomes (which they ought not be) - I wouldn't be suprised if you had the same.

I don't get EMA either, but I've never met anyone truly bitter about not getting it. I'd imagine that your parents can afford to give you £30 a week, but choose not to, assuming that you don't NEED £30 a week.

That's your parents' call, and not something you should take out on those worse off than you.
