Should i buy some BK pickups?

Hey there, im new to this forum so bare with me :)

My Vintage les paul copy (pre trev wilkinson era) is in a state of repair, the bridge pickup is either dead or on its way out, you can only just hear it if you turn everything on the amp to 10, including gain and suchlike  

So i reckon its time to touch the axe up, whack a new pair of pickups into it, buy some brand spanking new volume and tone knobs, etc

Would it really be worth buying a set of BK humbuckers for a guitar that cost me £180? would i need to buy new volume and tone pots?

should i buy a new axe? :(

any help would be great!

Well, if you like the way your guitar feels then making the changes you mentioned would certainly improve things a great deal. And don't forget to consider that if you do go out and drop a wedge on a new guitar you might still have pangs to change out the pickups and hardware.

Whichever you choose a  set of BKP's will make a HUGE difference on your tone.

"Yes" without a doubt. I've fitted a few sets to Epiphone Les Pauls and the guitars have been totally transformed. My last Epi LP customer said -

 "I wont bother trying to dream up any superlatives that you may not have heard about them!! Suffice to say I am a very happy man, I have a guitar that easily compares to a full on Gibbo for a fraction of the price..."

These were 'Mules' by the way, Tim's take on the PAF, with engraved nickel covers.

yup, i just put two BKPs ( Mule and a Blackdog ) in my Epi SG - an £189 guitar which now sounds more like an £800 one  8)

So which would be best for my tatses? My guitar hero has to be hendrix without a doubt :) but i also admire players like brian may, slash, angus young, justin hawkins...

if its classic rock them im in :D

but i dont want my guitar to always be crunchy and what not, i'd like to be able to play some mellow stuff that will love chorus and whatnot


An emerald in the bridge and a mule in the neck maybe? or have i mixed up my pickups as usual?

wish i could find the money for a pair of BK though, looks like its going to be a long time before ill get them :(

I've been thinking about picking up an epiphone and swapping out the hardware. It's a lot cheaper than a new gibson. Some of the new Epiphone Les Pauls & SGs look amazing. Have you guys had a chance to put your Epiphones up against  the Gibson models with your BK pickups :?:

I've fitted alot of our pickups to Epis and I've been staggered at how much better they sound-Epihones are built really well and with a pickup upgrade are a great guitar for the money.
The best was a Korina Vee-I fitted a pair of Mules and boy did that one rock. the customer and I were fighting over playing it :D

One of the things I love about Tim is that he's a lot like me: even tho I'm a rock guy, I still care about things other than distortion!! His pups have all the qualities of the the tried-and-true but with a fanatatical attention to detail and an unwillingness to compromise on tone.

+1 on upgrading Epi's and other cheaper copy guitars. My Epi Casino went from "just about usable at home" to "vintage tones to die for" when I fitted BKP's. Also, consider that even when you decide to get another guitar later on you can always switch or swap the BKP's over to your new guitar. If you find the right set four your needs you won't grow tired of 'em at all.

Go for it! Like Tinus says, if you upgrade your guitar at a later date, you can re-install the stock pickups, and keep the Bare Knuckles to put in your new guitar!
