Pickup Help???? Thanks Guys!!
« on: May 12, 2008, 06:14:55 PM »
Hey guys as you know i am new here. I heard about bareknuckle pickups from my cousin who has a set in a warmoth tele he built.I want to get a bridge pickup for my Les Paul its lacking a lot of bite.In my other Paul i have Burstbucker Pros which are pretty good ,but i want to try something new. The music i am into is mostly Industrial and Progressive metal/rock i am also into Blues and Hard rock. Favorite bands are Nine inch Nails,Tool,APC,Queens of the stoneage,Manson.I am looking something that has some bite and attack ..high in mids and even levels of low end and high end.I was looking at the Nailbomb and Warpig what do you guys think will work?

If you want bite then perhaps the painkiller or miracle man would be better suited than either the Nailbomb or the Warpig.
I too use chicken as a measurement.

Miracle Man in a Les Paul makes the floor shake.  It has bucket loads of low end :)

Holy Diver could do this, but I'm always a bit hesitant to recommend them for Les Pauls as I had widely differing results with the same Holy Diver set in two different LPs...

Of the pickups I've got Nailbomb would get my vote, but I wonder whether Crawlers (which I tried in Tim's LP Custom at LGS '07) would get you where you want to be?

Warpig would be a definite "no" - just too much low end if your LP is even a little bit bassy...

Nailbomb or Crawler is more in your ballpark I think. The bands you mentioned have typical low-end-chug tone, not really the "bite" your mentioned.

I'd say rebell yell (over a nailbomb in a les paul) thats got a good dollop of high mid and its just on the fence in terms of output - meaning you can go from classic to shred.

It took 14 days from ordering to doorstep for me in Wisconsin.  The pickups are made to order so times will vary.

Some ideas I think would look good:

-Plain gloss black covers(maybe with "BKP" engraved)
-Camo covers(the brown would go with the knobs)
-Chrome covered neck, open coiled bridge zebra or black.
-Both open coil zebras

I think I'd go with the black again, either covered or open, depending on which you want to go with. Personally, covered black.

Depends if you want to replace them with higher spec ones.
Otherwise, no.
