If i bought a guitar from say, BC Rich or Dean (as they have some ott inlays IMO) can you get the inlay removed and filled with somethng that blend with the wood so you wouldnt notice or would you always know that there was a big ol' cheesy inlay there?

Other than replacing the fret board (and the associated refinishiing) then I would say that you'll always be able to tell.
Advice worth what you just paid for it.

And it'd be an expensive process either way.

If you've got the extra money to spend, isn't there a pricier guitar you could get, with less annoying inlays?
BKPs I've Got:  RR, BKP-91, ITs, VHII, CS set, Emeralds
BKPs I Had:  RY+Abraxas, Crawlers, BD+SM

Yer very good points!! There not much point to it i guess. Cheers for the replies though it was just something i was wondering.

Do you think that changing fret board and freting would be a good neck project (Cosidering its the first time i will be doing anything DIY with a guitar neck) I think that would be fun but getting the frets right sounds really hard!

I think it's a bit like removing a tattoo. Expensive, painful and you can still tell it was there. You'd be better off getting it altered to make something really nice you like using nice MOP, paua, metals or contrasting wood.
Or simply don't buy a guitar that you don't like the look of, no matter how nice it feels or sounds you won't form a lasting relationship with it.

Personally, I would try to build your own neck, it's not as hard as you think.  If you're going to be removing a fret board and replacing it (along with fretting) then this sounds like just as much, if not more trouble than building one from scratch.

Worth giving a go a scr@p neck if you have one (actually, you'd be better of sending me the neck so I can build the Cigar Box Guitar I've been thinking about for the last few weeks.......... if only I hadn't have given away that neck last month..... DAMN)
Advice worth what you just paid for it.

Great points raised there guys. I think what i might do is take my squires neck off and have a play around. Then consider my first build. I'll post my experience on here probably.

Which Dean were you looking at ?
We have a work in progress guitar that has no inlays at all yet that is not allocated to anyone
It is a little oversize for an ML as we were trying to beef up the design
It does have a few chambers to reduce weight though

Great fretwork!
