Bridge Humbucker for Lite Ash Strat
« on: May 19, 2008, 07:43:11 PM »
Hi,

I've had my current lite ash strat for a good year and a bit and love the sound i get from the neck and neck/middle positions. Never really liked the sound from the bridge pickup, and so was thinking of replacing it with something else (it's routed H-S-H, but has the stock SD singles in at the moment).

I play a variety of music, and would be wanting the pickup for old classic rock sounds (Zeppelin etc) but also more modern metal sounds (Opeth to Lamb of God), not sure if this is possibly asking too much of one pickup (and of one guitar for that matter!) ?

Any thoughts much appreciated!

Steve

A bridge Painkiller would help make the strat sound huge and would have easily enough output to cope with Lamb of God/Opeth. A nailbomb would also be a good choice as it is tight/high output and many people use it for superstrats... The miracle man is the obvious choice for ultra tight/heavy stuff but i would say it's more suited to mahogany bodied guitars such as Les
Pauls... You also might want to consider the holy diver but i don't have any personal experience with that

The Crawler is said to sound good in a strat and it nails the Led Zep aswell as Opeth sounds. LoG is a different story, it will definitely be tight enough to handle modern metal, but it wont be the same sound. If you're happy playing LoG-like material with an Opethy sound, all is well. Hell, I play modern metal with my Mules.
Holy Diver and Nailbomb is sort of in the same ballpark and will be better for the more metal side of things, but wont handle the classic sounds as good as the Crawler does.
