What About Electrovoices? They were standards in some old mesa boogie models, like my mark IV old editions combos?

I personally mix 2 Celestion G12K-100s with 2 EVM-12L black labels. That cab I then also combine with a 2 x 15, 2 x 8 cab. The G12K-100 matches really nicely with the EVM-12L black label, in my experience. I love the grind of the G12K, especially the low end handling, and the EVM just takes everything you throw at it. I'd say the EVM is a more neutral speaker than the G12K, but they complement each other nicely. Oh, and the power handling is just incredible (300W for these puppies - EACH!). Cracking :)

V30s are a good reference speaker for rock guitar tones I think.

In actual use I prefer to combine them with the G12H, as is the done thing nowadays it seems.

I prefer Celestion V60s, they take care of that harsh nature the V30s have, and have a bit more meat to them (lower mids sort of region). I think they are only available in Engl cabs, but they are amazing speakers.

+1 ;)

I'm not a big fan of V30s "in the room" sound, but I do like them recorded "in the mix". They usually work out alright!

I have them in a Rivera Knucklehead cab 4x12 and  I know what you are talking about with harsh trebs  with cleans especially..  But I like them for dirt, although I have to keep an EQ pedal with all mids out and a Barber tonepress to warm up both cleans and dirts.  I am looking to replace two of these speakers with something with more punchy lows and hollow mids.  Prolly a pair of Eminence.  Check EMinence out, they have some V30 similes that are supposed to be great  Redcoat and Patriot I think they are called

The V30 works well for some stuff, in a Fender Hot Rod De Ville it sounds great....but in a mesa standard cab (which is insanely expensive) it sounds like total ass......goes to show that cab design is of the utmost importance, never buy a cab without trying it first just because it has a certain speaker in it......just my thoughts.

I like V30s for high gain stuff, but I do find them fatiguing after a while in the upper mids.

For hi-gain stuff, the (much hated) G12T-75 is better, though they do need to be LOUD to get the best from them.

I also like the Classic Lead 80 for high gain stuff - mega chunky tone than loves bags of overdrive, not so much classic rock stuff though.  It's got that big bottom end that always reminds me of Hetfield's tone on Justice.

I think it could be the Mark IV. I used to have a Mark III and didn't like anything but the Mesa Black Shadows speakers with it.

I think Rectifiers are more voiced for V30s, but Mesa Mark amps need EVs or  BlackShadows ...

I replaced the V30 in my stiletto 1x12 with a G12-65 because I found the V30 very harsh. The G12-65 gave me everything I wanted, smooth, warm and cruncy.

I wish I could find a 4x12 pre-loaded with them.

Interesting, I think you're the first person I've read with a good word to say about the V60s.

Just for interest's sake, does anyone know what the V60s are?  Yes, I know they're speakers, duh   What I mean is that I can't see them listed on the Celestion website - are Engl just using a different name for an existing model, or are they made exclusively for Engl?
