Peavey Classic 50/50 poweramp problem
« on: May 23, 2008, 04:21:21 AM »
Hello everyone, im new here (n00b) n.e ways
my rig is a mesa boogie studio preamp into a peavey classic 50/50 and latley when i turn my amp up to "show volume" the 2 standby lights on the peavey will turn off and at that moment the sound cuts out quikly, so i played the amp with the cover of the peavey off and when the amp cuts out, 3 of the 12 tubes in the peavey turn off for a sec, and those 3 tubes are orange/blue and the rest are just orange, im almost positive the problem is the tubes cuz of that evidence but could there be another possible problem?

It sounds as though you should take the amp to an amp tech to look over it. Unless you're comfortable with how amps work and can diagnose the problem yourself (which I guesss is not the case, as you're posting here!), then taking it to an amp tech is the safest and probably cheapest (in the long term) solution!

Good luck,

Roo

Yeah, that sounds very much like a tech job. Might be something simple, but you don't want to mess around with it yourself unless you know what you are doing (well I wouldn't anyway).

I'm no amp expert, it's very unlikely to be the 3 tubes, but it might be just the first one in the signal path. I really don't know how they work.

You could try swapping the tubes around and seeing if that effects the pattern, you never know, you might just need a single new valve.
