New band recording - Nailbomb bridge (Metal)
« on: May 24, 2008, 11:49:08 AM »
Hi guys,

Was in the studio with my band on Thursday - this is the first time I've recorded using BKPs, so thought I'd best share.

All guitar parts were recording using the Nailbomb bridge in my Ibanez S320.

Amp is an Engl Fireball, gain set to about 8-9 o'clock with relatively neutral EQ - played through a Vox 2*12 with V30s.

All rhythm guitar is double tracked.

Thanks for listening!

I really like the tone you've got going on there. The guitar sounds almost dry, and the playing is nice and tight, keeping the sound well under control.
Not so keen on the vocals, I'm afraid, but each to his own! (And I felt a bit reluctant to say this, given that our band is searching for a replacement vocalist at the moment!).

Thanks for sharing!

Nice production. Vocals arn't my thing either (is it a girl??!). The first one also sounds like its a bit too slow IMO. It feels like its lagging a bit at the beginning.

Nice tone though  :)  can't believe the gain is that low.

Cheers guys!

Yes, that's my other half on vocals. Not everyone's cup of tea, but she's good at what she does & is a vast improvement on the previous vocalist. Also worth noting that this is her first band and she joined us last October, so she's done a great job getting to the standard she's at now.

I actually didn't like the Nailbomb when I first got it, then I discovered it really shined when the gain was rolled back. It seems to really drive the amp - moreso than the Warpig I use in one of my other axes.
The only problem with the low gain is you don't get away with sloppy playing! Thanks to a lot of rehearsal and a generous helping of good luck I got away with only a few minor mistakes.

I do agree with the comment on the first song. It seems to get going after the first chorus - although I've had a close listen and I'm sure the tempo doesn't pick up at all.

Awesome. It is a very good job for what it is. It's vastly better than a lot of the male guys with have around here. Dunno if she's heard of Melissa Cross, but if she hadn't, she should look her up and improve even more.

That was pretty bleak, and bleak is good!  Everything is so sterile that what raw emotion is there manifests itself in a bleak atmosphere.  Superb tone too!

Sweet, awesome guitar tone, I was debating whether to get a nailbomb, and I think I will now! :) Nice tight sound.

Is that the Engl Fireball E625 head? If so, what're they like? My mate was gonna get one, but couldn't find any around, they're like £800 or so I think, so I presume they're fairly good?

I dig the singing man, reminded me a bit of Arch Enemy. Nice recording.

Thanks for the comments. My vocalist is going to go from low confidence to having a massive ego as she's had a lot of positive feedback from the recording. She's got both the Melissa Cross DVDs, but hasn't actually bothered to watch them yet.

Yes, it's the E625 Fireball head. Fantastic amp - the gain is brutal, I rarely take it past 11 o'clock using humbuckers. It's also very sensitive to different pickups, which is something I really like. It's loud enough to have the drummer complaining and it survived having beer spilt over the internals (new fuse and a clean and it worked fine).

If he's after an amp to play metal, he won't be disappointed. If he wants flexibility I'd give it a miss.

F***ck ya!!!  :guitar4:
I like it,  I don't think it's all that "Arch Enemy-ish"
but with a female doing vocals like this it's impossible not to get that comparison (Is she hot too?   )
cool tone you're getting as well.
I love my nailbomb 7 :D
