Author Topic: Would Celestion G10 Greenback and G10 Vintage mix well? (Read 4468 times)

I am close to ordering a Mongotone 4x10 Cab. They are awesome pieces of solid mahogany with dovetailed corners and huge, tight sound.

Now I am wondering whether the G10Ms and the G10Vs would mix well, as they have different sensitivities (97 and 95 dB). Has anyone ever mixed a Greenback with a Vintage 30?

Or should I get the standard version with 4xG10 Vintage?

erm well, I am using the G10 vintage, but in a vox VR30, and it's very nice. I would think the Greenback and the Vintage would be a nice mix, I like the idea of it. Have you considerd the brand new Celestion G10's Golds?

p.s. If you do order the Mongotone I can't wait to hear clips of it, as I am very close to buying the 2x10 myself since you first mentioned them.

Yeah they are sweeet, many many good things coming off the British island indeed indeed ...

Clips - not sure if that'll make so much sense, as I'd have to use extensive room mics to get the effect. But I am expecting a major ear opener due to the half open back design - it's supposed to bring the sound EVERYwhere in any location, and be tight at the same time - I can't wait :O)

Yeah looks can be debated, but i might consider having the Shiva head put in a matching head shell and implement it as permanent furniture in the family living room <LOL>

That cab would be perfect with a Trainwreck head. Get Nik at Ceriatone to build you one!

Personally I'd go with all Greenies or all vintages or Golds as mentioned. I wouldnt mix speakers with different sensitivities because I'd have thought that one would over-power the other too much?

They do indeed. For the full effect, they could be relic'd with lots of scratched-in initials, some ink stains, chalkdust, a dead mouse in the back, wobbly joints and a few strategically placed 6-inch nails holding them together. Or has school changed since my day?

Very elegant really though, especially with the dark cloth.

Not at all.

In my school, the hall and Gym both have a whole load of desks in storage which are pulled out for exams, they haven't been changed since the 70s or earlier, and they're all COVERED in scratchings...
