Would you choose this over Guitar stuff?
« Reply #15 on: May 26, 2008, 11:08:00 AM »
Most of my money goes into guitar stuff  If its not that its my bike but I havent bought anything expensive for that for ages (well I bought a new saddle the other day but it was only £20!).

My guitar funds will be going down shortly though because I now have a car again and insurance/petrol isnt cheap :(

my girlfriend  (actually, i may have to start saying fiancee) fully understands that any guitar related earnings  (seperate to my full time job) are mine to spend on tools, piles of wood, pickups and hardware and the occasional tattoo

although that didnt stop me saving up all my repair monies this year to get an engagement ring  - possibly my biggest non-guitar related purchase.

Woo, congrats!!

Congrat Wez!

Before running my business I always used to ensure that any money I made from music gear or doing a bit of private work went back into new music gear or tools for making guitars. whilst the 9-5 job paid for everything else.

At times it was tough - especially when I had a long term  girlfriend who earned a lot more than me so she wanted to take more holidays which I couldn't afford - even if I spent my guitar money on holidays instead.

As for any ideas about having children - that was a complete no-no for me
You would have to sell all your gear and take a second job just to start paying for that " luxury"

Thankfully now I have a girlfriend who is a lot more tolerant of my guitar passions and only complains when the amp  collection starts to get out of hand, and even then she is only teasing. She has an allergy to children and much prefers owning a cat (even a high maintenance Persian one ) which I cant fault.

yeah, we had an issue with amps about a year back - somehow i had got to 5 which is crazy for someone who hardly plays guitar.. i got rid of most of them and ordered my matamp.. she likes the red amp and it kind of matches our decorating.  the only thing she gets really fed up with is the number of cardboard boxes i seem to gather

I'm in complete agreement. Spending large amounts of money on non-guitar/audio things just doesnt even enter my head.

You have no idea how universally true that can be.

I have had customers who have wanted to order a guitar much to the displeasure of their wives , and found that when they chose to have a nice "furniture" guitar - all pretty maple and subtle colours any objections that their wife had seem to melt away as the guitar will blend with the decor.

In my case I just need to find a leopard print amplifier - my lady seems to have a thing for leopard print if tastefully done.

Well done Wez. I agree that if you get a good ( i.e. gear tolerant) one it is best to hold on.

I kinda have the opposite problem.

I confess to being a scrooge. Before I buy anything I will prevaricate for months (it's a lot of money, can we afford it ... isn't just a luxury, will I actually use it, ermmmm...).

But, the missis is a wild-ass Frankfurt girl and  it's like ...

>Remak!, Are you looking at guitar porn on ze interweb again????

>>emmm, errr... click, click, click, noooooo, just this Harvey Benton guitar strap for 8 euros.

>So what is in ze browser you are hiding behind that one???

>>Errr, nothing .....

>I wish to see!!!!!

>>OK, its this 3500 Euro vintage Fenderson '59 lust bucket delux... obviously its too much money but ....

>Ze quality is execllent, Ja? The workmanship is of highest standards, rrrrrrrrrichtig?

>>Yes.

> Then this quality will be remembered long after price is forgotten, as your Feline Guitars are having said. You must buy now or this chance will be forever away going.

>>But we won't be able to pay the rent for the next 3 months!

> Nonsense! our legal insurance will keep the landlord in court the next 5 years, by that time we will have moved anyway. Buy it immediately !!! Then also clean toilet!, I am not your putzfrau!!!

and ya know what? She is always right.
