Tail piece - Un top wrapping
« on: May 30, 2008, 02:38:41 AM »
Well, for a few years, I have top wrapped my LP, but now I am feeling like I want more of a tighter feel with the strings, however, my tailpiece has chunky grooves in it cut from the strings, any suggestions for flattening them out? just get a file and elbow grease?

I am gonna miss that rich and resonant sound of raking behind the bridge :(

I wouldn't try to file the grooves out, you'll be through the plating before you know it.  Unless you want to go for the "industrial accident" look (I can hardly call it "relic").

It'll only cost a few quid to replace.
BKPs I've Got:  RR, BKP-91, ITs, VHII, CS set, Emeralds
BKPs I Had:  RY+Abraxas, Crawlers, BD+SM

The grooves did shred my hand when my tech put it back to normal, and not wanting to spend too much money. Shalll probably leave it as it is, and maybe eventually just file the grooves out. The cosmetic issue doesn't bother me, the guitar already has a huge sticker under the finish  :(

Sticker under the finish????? Odd.

If they're sharp then it may be worth taking off the edges with a fine file or bit of sandpaper.  If it's able to cut our hand, then it shouldn't be on there.
Advice worth what you just paid for it.

Its just the grooves that have appeared from top wrapping, so if I leave it, it presents no danger.
Its the Wylde epi, they didn't paint them
