power amp?

hey guys. i haven't been around in a while, haven't been playing the guitar all that much. but with the summer coming up, i'm looking to get some new gear. i'm probably going to be spending around $1000 (graduation $$$) and i'm going to get a new guitar, and possibly a power amp to go with my Engl e530.
Are there any decent power amps that i can get used for around like $200 bucks or something? I know that seems too cheap, but i remember hearing that one Peavey pre is really nice and can be found for like $200 used. I'm looking to get something as cheap as possible, almost definitely used, so i can spend most of the money on a guitar.

Peavey have a 50/50 tube power amp that comes up on eBay every so often.  I'm not sure how much they wil be, but they are pretty cheap.

yeah the Peavey 50/50 is fairly cheap and a decent poweramp. Has a resonance knob too so you can get more 'thud' if need be.

I had that peavey poweramp and loved it. Sold it simply because I didn't use it very often (prefer to have an all-in-one amp, hence the JCM800 combo).

They are EL84 powered, but I think there's also a 6L6 powered one that was available.

you could try for one of those sunn solid state slaves, but watch for them, the name sunn makes people stupid and over pay on them.

ok guys, thanks for the help. i hope i'll have the money for it. i've been looking at the deans for about a year now, but none of the guitars seemed quite right for me. but i just looked on their page for the first time in a few months and saw they had TONS of new guitars. i'm really liking the ML dimeslime and the razorback 255 dimeslime. i've been waiting for them to come out with some type of burst finish on a razorback.
ok, so i'm going off topic, but i might as well just continue it here.
the 255 razorback, which i'm leaning towards, has a pair of EMG 81/85's in it. that's great, i want EMG's, but i don't want them in the razorback. i'm going to want to put some BKP's in that one. will i have all the stuff I need, and room, to switch the EMG's into my Vee, and the pickups from my V into the Dime? i'm hoping it should be an easy switch since both guitars have three knobs.

You will have to swtch the pots too, as EMG's use 25K pots.

if the razorback comes from the factory with EMG's they might not have drilled for the wire from the bridge to the control cavity

Passive pickups will need this wire installing

will all of this be easy enough for a newb like me? i've changed my pickups before, but thats about the only guitar work i've done.

changing pots... is that going to require me unsoldering all of the wiring to get them out?

Adding the ground wire shouldn't be too hard, as Wez said - you'll need to drill a hole from the control cavity to the trem spring cavity, but they're right next to each other so it should be easy to see where you're drilling if you're looking at the back of the guitar.  Then you feed through a wire, solder one end to the spring claw and the other to the back of a pot.

And yes, you'll need to unsolder (or cut) all of the wiring to get the pickups and pots out - everything will need replacing except the switch.

I hear their licensed floyds are rubbish, but I've no experience of them myself

personally I'd go with the ML, I tried both and the razorback has a long sticky out bit going all the way down the neck, felt weird and put me right off but then you might like it

best to try it and find out for yourself

yeah i'm going to go out and try them and buy one in store. just looking for opinions so i might know of some things to look for. i'll make sure i compare the two necks.

what didn't you like about it? and which ML was it? they make some good ones and some garbage ones, or at least it appears so. Last time i was at guitar center they all seemed to play much better than my gibsons. but then again i only picked up each one for a couple seconds.
