Sims custom shop
« on: June 04, 2008, 07:56:23 PM »
Hi
Im considering buying a custom build from the guys at Sims Custom shop in Kent. I know their finishing work is top notch but does anyone have any knowledge of what theyre bodies and necks are like quality and playability wise?

i dont really hav 2grand to go to a handmade luthier type shop so it looks like this is my only option, but I just want to find out as much as i can about it.

Im leaning towards getting the neck from warmoth as I like theyre options, I've heard good things and its quite cheap  :)
Cheers
Rich

Martin Sims has his act together
I have used him for spraying in the past and also for LEDs

His CNC routing rig looks good and seems to turn out great product .

However I'm a bit out of touch with all Martin's workshop activities lately
Bob from Legra may know more as he currently uses Sims for stuff.

Jonathon, can I ask, are there any marks to the neck once LEDs have been installed?

Like, is it obvious work has been done whilst they are off?

You can sometimes see a line or  a channel on the treble side of the neck, where Sims slot into the fingerboard and install all the wiring .
They refit a piece of wood and it i usually a brilliant match but no two bits of wood are identical so you can just about make out where they have gone in
You usually don't see anything around the LEDs at all though

Thanks man!

And do they refret it? Or are they using the same fingerboard as opposed to fitting a new one?

HOLY shite - this has taken me over 50 attemps to send this message
