Pig-90 for 3 Pickup SG (Middle position)?
« on: June 10, 2008, 06:09:34 AM »
Morning everyone (for everyone near me it is anyway :) ).

Ok, so the guitar in question is a 3 pickup SG (the white epiphone one with the Maestro tremolo).
As it stands, I'm not happy with the sound of the guitar.  The sound is mushy, completely undefined and totally not rocking the way it should.
If I turn the volume on the middle pickup completely down (stock Epis' BTW), then I can get a sound out of it that is ok, not great but ok.  I'm effectively using it like a standard 2 'bucker guitar in this mode.
Eventually, I will change all three of the pickups for BKPs' of some variety but for now, due among other things finances, I thought I would swap out the middle pickup.

I want the guitar to be a rocker, probably not death metal, but a serious rocker.  My thought was a pig-90 neck in the middle position.
Do you guys think that would be a good choice?  Or are there other choices that I should definitely consider?
Not mailed Tim yet, but with the responses and outcome of this thread I'll speak to him and see what he thinks.

Hmm, you may well be right Wez.   I just figured that changing the middle would take away some of that mushiness that I hate.
What do you think would sit well in the bridge position?

Check the search function- someone recently filled a similar guitar with all three warpigs- ceramic bridge, pig90 middle and alnico neck. Also made some clips. I forgot the user, try searching for pig-90.

Edit- check this thread out. http://www.bareknucklepickups.co.uk/forum/viewtopic.php?t=12170
