But what's the difference between "a bit harder than usual at the tips" (or "thick, moderately de-sensitised skin", as Mark put it) and callouses?  Aren't they the same thing?

Hope so. My fretting fingertips are a different shape and colour (eg not pink & healthy looking) to those on my picking hand... There's definitely something in there!  :lol:

It amazes and shocks me at how vain and stupid this guy is. If you don't want to ruin your 'pretty hands', don't play the bloody guitar.

Maybe this guy doesn't want callouses because the rough feeling skin would hurt too much on his tiny p***s from all the 'alone time' he has in front of his computer, looking at girls bits because he's never had a girlfriend in his life.

I don't see my callouses anymore. Which is either 1. I'm not playing enough, 2. I've played past the point they get any more um.. rough I suppose.

Havent seen a callous in about 9 years and 6 months.

I just have thick, moderately de-sensitised skin (can still feel pain in the fingertips, but maybe half of doing the same thing to my right hand, which, oddly, on the very rare occasions that I try a left handed guitar, doesnt hurt at all with fretting)

me too, also been playing roughly 10 years, just less. My skin on my left hand finger tips are thick, but it aint hard, just mega tough, almost ...leather like.
