It's red. I don't like red guitars.

It is so not red!  It's vintage sunburst.

Nice looking guitar that, Phil

It freaking well is red! look at the edges! RED! Not a fan of sunbursts at all these days- I can only stomach my Epi Les Paul due to the tone and feel. As soon as i have a garage/garden at my disposal i'm sanding that biznatch down and clear coating the hell out of it

No, it really isn't red - reddish golden brown maybe, I'll grant you that.

It's a transparent faded/vintage sunburst on korina, so on the darkest bits it looks almost like natural finish mahogany.  I'd call it a maple syrup colour!

They have managed to make an ugly guitar even uglier. Plus a maple-top defeats the whole affordable idea surley?  PRS used to mean something but now with SE's and Mira's they are just diluting the brand.

I'm not sure the Mira could be accused of diluting the brand - it's still a US made PRS, and isn't exactly cheap. As for the SE models, they are incredibly well built guitars for the money, and they while some might argue they dilute the brand, my take would be that they help introduce people to it.

I've had an SE Singlecut for about 18 months now, and it helped me to begin to 'get' PRS guitars. I now also own a US made Tremonti Signature, and I will buy more as soon as I can afford it. I think the only way the SE range could do any damage to the brand is if the quality control were to slip.

I don't think being affordable is exclusively what the Mira is about. And as far as I'm aware you can still get them without the maple-top anyway.

And I'm not quite sure what you mean by diluting the brand. SE's are great guitars for the money, and by all accounts Mira's are fantastic too.[/i]

I think if anything the SE range strengthens the brand - it stops PRS being seen as "unaffordable" and perhaps encourages new customers to take that next step up.  And they use the SE range to make models available which aren't in the USA range - like the Custom Semi-Hollow and SE One.

It's also very clearly aimed at a different price bracket, with no attempt to blur the edges and confuse the customer (unlike, say, Fender, who no longer make it at all clear in their literature exactly which guitars are made in the USA, Mexico, Korea, China...).

And as for the main USA line, PRS seem to be quite brutal in not letting it sprawl too much.  Almost every time there's a new model, something else gets the chop to make way - no more Singlecuts, no more McCarty (at least not in their original form).

The Mira is very much a PRS - just a slightly different PRS which, in fact, goes back to the models which inspired Paul Reed Smith in the first place (even though the Mira is Joe Knaggs' design!).
