Hi,

Could someone please recommend some good delay pedals as i'm in the market for one...

I would quite like it to have true bypass but that is rare in delay pedals... Also an analogue one would be great but thats not ruling out digital ones - i really liked the sound of the Mad Professor Deep Blue Delay!

Money isn't really a problem with a stompbox... I just want the 'best' so that i don't have to look to upgrade in the future...

Wrong forum- this would get more responses in the guitar amp effects forum.

I like my BYOC delay- true bypass and really analogue sounding. Does mean you have to build it yourelf.

timefactor all the way.. i have one and i've never been happier with a delay unit. but if you would like more vintage tone empress super delay sounded like the best option. as badgermark mentioned you can use guitar, effect board instead of this board

Eventide Timefactor for sure :D I'm saving for one right now. The sound quality is awesome, the features unparallelled. It's just great!

Actually you can order them prebuilt via the Canadian distributers axes r us; although wheres the fun in that!

If you'er after organic delay BYOC gets my vote; although its not as flexible or ranging as a Boss D5 for example.

Ive heard good things about the nova delay too.

What sort of deley sounds are you looking for?

If you want slap echo, Brian May delay and Led Zeppelin delay sounds, you can't beat the Boss RE-20. It perfectly mimicks the old Roland RE-201 Space Echo. It's digital but you'll never notice. It sounds and reacts as an analogue machine. It's not true bypass but the input volume can add some nice grit to the tone.

Also look into the HBE Mimick. Analogue and true bypass.

Pah- if anyone wants a BYOC pedal build I'll do it for them. My last few have turned out great- and reliable as far as lugging around to rehearsals go. It'll cost you postage and you get to paint it yourself, not tried painting mine yet.

I've recently bought two delays which I'm planning on spending a couple of weeks experimenting with and then I'll sell on my least favourite.
I've had the MXR 'Carbon Copy' for a few days now and it's excellent. Up to 600 m/sec of analog delay and a modulation switch which adds a bit of vibrato to the repeat. It sounds great!
The second is a Carl Martin Delayla XL, which I picked up from the local Royal Mail depot this morning and have yet to try. It's digital with a supposed 'analog feel' and has up to 1000m/sec of delay with a tap tempo switch and 2 delay 'heads'. I'm looking forward to seeing what it can do!

Eventide or T.C Electronics Nova, T-Rex Replica or the new Roland Space echo is good. Line 6 do one that everyone seems to have on their pedal board. Not sure of the model but they're green!

I would look at the Retro Sonic Analog Delay which is based on the old Boss DM-2 with true bypass and long/short switch. Just got one a few weeks ago and love it. For digital delay the Empress Superdelay seems totally awesome as well!

It all really depends what you are looking for in a delay pedal. For me, I'm looking for a good variety of potential sounds, different memory slots so I can use different delays during songs, tap tempo, and reliability.

The DD-20 has all of these features, at the best price. Of it's direct competitors, the Nova delay has a number of reported noise issues. The Timefactor is exellent, but much more expensive.

Another little known point about the DD-20 is that it does no AD-DA conversion to your dry signal at any point, whether on or off. The only digitally produced sound is the actual delays. I would never in a million years be able to tell that the "analogue" and "tape" modes were digital if I heard them on a recording anyway.

Can you tell I like DD-20's !!

The Akai E2 Headrush is good, Delay, Echo and looper with tap tempo.
It's digital and has a Hi fi sound but you can get it a bit more vintage sounding with the HF damp that degrades the repeats. It's not true bypass but it does not seem to affect tone when off.

But no battery power, PSU only (included).
