HELP! Which BKP for a Schecter Avenger A7 Elite Custom?
« on: June 28, 2008, 02:41:27 AM »
hey guys!

does anybody have any experience with BKP, the same type of guitar that i have and the same type of musical outlets that i have?

MUSIC = i'd love to have a sound that could be used for polyrhytmic metal (textures, meshuggah, periphery) progressive rock (muse, mute math), hardcore (underoath) as well as clean, warm music (opeth [the soft version], incubus). i really honestly need to play all those styles too.

some of my stuff (but not all)!:
* www.myspace.com/sethhsound
* www.myspace.com/byolence
* www.myspace.com/iirisvesik
* www.soundclick.com/sethh

GUITAR = here are my specs!:
Neck-Thru construction
24 frets, 25.5" scale
Interesting body shape, semi arch-top
1 Vol, 1 Tone, 3-way selector
Mahogany body, Maple neck
Ultra Violet finish
Tune-O-Matic bridge (stop tailpiece)
Binded neck, Rosewood fingerboard
PS: it's body is pretty big, kinda explorer-like shaped! (i attached a pic)

so whaddaya think?

C-WARPIG / C-NAILBOMB / PAINKILLER / MIRACLE MAN / COLD SWEAT?

ceramic or maybe alnico 8?

calibrated set or a mix?

chrees!

Myspace has an issue with me. Couldn't play the songs. I'll try again another time.

My gut feeling says Painkiller bridge + Cold Sweat neck.

:lol:

the painkiller has 16k, 3 huge ceramic magnets and has enough mids to drive even a fender amp
if that's not hot enough for you, then you should play a flamethrower

Eric, we finally agree!

Yes, the painkiller is very, very aggressive.

Its tightness, output and articulation make it superb for the tech-metal.

Its a little dry for the other stuff though.

Maybe an A8 nailbomb

Does anyone have an alnico painkiller yet? I have a feeling that would work.

Of the 'stock' range, I'd lean toward Nailbomb.

Edit: Oh, I'm posting from work, I cant listen to the myspace. I'll make a more informed recommendation later.

Nailbomb set would be great for you me-thinks!

As you mention Muse: Matt Bellamy uses a Nailbomb if I'm not mistaken(?), but they can certainly handle the more metal/hardcore side of things as well.

thanks guys!

for neck i think i might have good luck with the Cold Sweat, as i've read it's one of the best things for warm vintage jazzy stuff...

but for bridge you think the alnico 8 Painkiller? how dry is the ceramic? (i have a warm big mahogany guitar keep in mind!) is it not gonna work for indierock and poprock? how bout if i utilize both humbuckers with the switch in the middle and get the meat from the Cold Sweat?

also has anyone had a ceramic Nailbomb here in my type of a guitar?

i want tight tech-metal, pop-rock and clean warm jazzy sounds all in two pickups dammit! :)

PS: i forgot to mention, it's a customed guitar: all the laquer and paint is proffessionally grinded off, it's got a mahogany finish now with a slight matte laquer on it! so overall it's should be warmer than it used to!

And I get that from both my sets. All BKPs are versatile, it should be down to how you want it eq'ed. What's the flaw of the current sound? (IE too bright, too much bass, not enough mids, bass sounds floppy etc)

It might not be necesary to go ceramic, but the "tight tech-deth" really does suggest it, and the Painkiller is perfect for that, aswell as having a great clean for a high output pickup, which is why I suggested it.
In a mahogan/maple guitar, your options are fairly open, so I suggest you give more details as to what direction you what the SOUND tweaked (and not just styles you wanna play)

Welcome mate

Ceramic nailbomb, with an A5 in the neck would be a very solid choice. They can cover just about any ground you could want. Extremely tight, clear, fat.
The Painkiller is the tightest pickup I've ever played, it really is surgical. The clarity is unreal too. The bridge is quite similar to the c-bomb, but with a more upper-mid emphasis.

The neck models for both of these are incredible. The Cold Sweat has gained alot of notoriety, and rightly so, but that doesn't mean it's the only neck BK worth considering.

Great tunes too mate!

thanks guys!

i ordered a bridge C-Bomb and a neck Cold Sweat now. i was kinda thinking that the Painkiller is gonna be too surgical for my other needs and for the neck i wanted Cold Sweat cause the vintage fenderlike vibe in my cleans 'n leads is a must! Nailbomb ceramic should be thick and versatile and tight by all i've read during the past... 7 days & nights. anyway, thanks for tha support!

Nolly you're insane. you escaped from somekindofan asylum. no one should play guitar that good and choose that good songs. das ist sehr fantastisch! let's form a band when i move to the UK matey? hooray.

Hah thanks man, keep coming back to listen to the stuff on your myspace(s), it's really fresh and awesome! If you're actually going to be coming to England we should definitely get together for a jam.
I think you're going to be very happy with the combination you've chosen... you're going to want BKs in all your guitars soon no doubt..
