I still really want to see someone report back with an Edwards SG! Those things look sick. Good luck in your quest.

Hi I have got a SG faded (left handed one).  I like it but have noticed they seem to mark rather easily with no paint.  The quality of the fretboard  could also be better on mine.  It plays well but I wonder how the fretboard will last over time.

Hope it helps

The Vintage is Mega cheap! It's almost worth buying just to check out at £120!

Yeah, I keep thinking that as well.
Their SGs appeal to me more than any of their other models.
When I bought my Tokai LP, I'd expressly gone out intending to try Vintage if I could lay my hands on some. Like I said ealier though - I never got round to it!

i'm not sure if that's the right way to look at it. certainly if it were, like, £20, maybe, but £120 is expensive enough that if it sucks, you've lost quite a bit of money.

I haven't tried it, i'm just pointing out that buying something cheap which sucks is normally a false economy.

i tried a vintage strat once, there was nothing wrong with it. eastern popular body wood on that model though, so i decided to steer clear. according the the specs the SG should be mahogany - definately worth a look i reckon.

I saw the "mahogany specs" bit a while back.
I have seen one up close (2nd hand in an odd little shop when I was on holiday in Cornwall in January) - it looked gorgeous, but it was more expensive than I knew I could get them new in London, so I didn't touch it in case I liked it!

yeah, i've tried some of the vintage advances which actually were quite nice, but i haven't tried the cheaper ones (and the vintage advances are allegedly a step-up from the cheaper ones). actually, now i remember i think i did try the cheaper vintage LP goldtop with p90s, and i wasn't much fussed on that, but i haven't tried the sg.

anyway, i was more disagreeing with the principle that if it's cheap it's almost worth chancing it (unless you know it to be decent as well), rather than the specific guitar which i have no idea about. :)

I knew a guy in school who had a Vintage SG, not sure if it was poplar of mahogany, as this was a few years ago, but i remember thinking it was pretty awesome.

Dammit, i'm wanting another SG now. Thanks guys, ruining my happy little bubble of having two different guitars and a custom in the works. Add a SG into the work and my head hurts with choice. Thanks.

A mates main gigging guitar was a Vintage SG (with a pair of Pearly Gates installed) and he loved it, in the end he started using it in the studio in preference to his more expensive instruments (it ended up being played on the White Stripes album Elephant  for one solo)

I always felt it was a little more neck heavy than a real gibson though

Can I suggest the Epiphone SG Prophecy? Lovely neck. 24 Frets... And easily less than £400... Well made too...

Anyone got a view on that SG with the broken headstock on EvilBay? Looks good to me - and I know a friendly guitar repairer.....
