New guitar choice

Hey all,

I currently play a Gibson SG, but want a new guitar for more metal type music. I was thinking perhaps an Ibanez, one in the range of probably £300-500 or so (not including pickups), and then put some BKs in it, I could go more than that, but that is a rough area.

My first thought was this one.

http://www.ibanez.co.jp/products/images/eg2008/SZR720_TGB_12_01.gif

The page I was looking at it on is http://www.guitarampkeyboard.com/en/75436, if anyone wants to have a look :)

Tbh, it's mainly because of the quilt top and the inlay... I'm a sucker for both! :P

Although i'm fairly open, and just want a new guitar for modern metal type stuff, nothing hugely particular, think Lamb of God, Killswitch Engage style music as the sort of top end of heaviness, and then anything down to A7X, possibly Funeral For a Friend type stuff? Although I don't play FFAF, just to clear that up... (got some friendly abuse for mentioning them once) :p, it sounds kinda bad as im not being specific at all, lol, but i'm not really fussed, I just want to experiment, and then see what sounds I can get.

I don't want a Floyd Rose really, but am open to anything, and a fast neck would be good. :)

Anyone got any suggestions?

Thanks,

Ben.

LTD H1000 - Amazing guitar imo, quite similar to the one shown.

I'm a little bias considering my obsession with Horizons.

They cost about £800 though, and you might want to do something about the EMGs.

I havent played one but the Ibanez RGA121 in the darker finish look really, really nice. Costs £560 though which is quite a bit. I probably wouldnt get on with the neck which is a shame because it looks so good.

I'd really recommend the Ibanez SZ. It's a very underestimated guitar and it's great value for money. It's very comfortable and sounds great (even stock).

hhmm, the ESP seems nice, not sure on the Ibanez RGA121, I might go to GAK one day, although it will take me about 3-3.5 hours to get there, but it'l be worth it! :)

Steve: How does the SZR compare to the SZ? The SZ's seem nice, i've seen one in Black Sunburst that looks nice, might be worth a try! :)

hhmm, I would be interested in buying it, although the main problem is:

"End time:   2 hours 15 mins"

Meaning I won't be able to try/see it, i will try one though, and try and get a deal... Thanks :)

I've not played the SZR unfortunatly. But I can't see it being too different from the SZ. It looks basically like an SZ with a different headstock, fancy inlay and a ever so slightly different cut body.

Those new charvels would be so cool if they were a hardtail and not floyd. I kinda got gas for a superstrat again   My Charvel played really nicely but it looked too cheesy 80s and had a bad piece of basswood :(

^ those new charvels would be cool if the price (presumably) won't get inflated about 300% above the USA price...    :x

that's what i'd go with. they used to go for a little over £500, but the price may have increased. They're quite bright-sounding, though, which might not be what you want.

Those new Charvels are going to cost around £700. About the price of the RR24. They won't be over here till September time either.

ah, i guess that's a little better compared to what we normally get ripped for on US gear. Still a 40% increase though on the US price... :(

EDIT: I don't get all the LTD love... they were vastly over-priced in the UK market, and now that they're starting to fall towards what they should be going for (in my opinion), everyone's all over them?  :?

http://www.musiciansfriend.com/product/ESP-LTD-EX400-Electric-Guitar?sku=512028

that's what they're going for in the USA...

http://machinehead.co.uk/index.php/cPath/21_49 that's what i'd get... washburn wi65pro idol... they're discontinued, £240, stock with duncans (hey, they're no bkps but they're better than pretty much any stock pickup on a £250 guitar)...
