VHII: Trying to get Bonamassa's tone on "So Many Roads"
« on: July 06, 2008, 01:24:22 PM »
This is my attempt of this morning. As he said in his interview he is using pushed Plexis and Dumble clones (Two-Rock) in parallel, I programmed  exactly that in the Axe FX and was pretty quickly pretty close to the desired tone. VHIIs match perfectly.

I think I'd need '11s strings to get the real snarl of his original tone though...

Here's the clip, the clean sound at the neck is the same patch with volume on the neck dialed back and a tremolo activated:

Sounds very good :) You're starting to get the hang of the AxeFX now it seems.. Does it feel like a real amp?

Thanks _tom_ ... I am still confused by the new look and all the buttons in here.

I'd need to plug it into something powerful with "hard" speakers (not soft cones like in my studio monitors). I plugged it into the power amp in of the Shiva (with speaker sims off) and it sounded spot on! Let's see what it's like through a FRFR system (after the gig on Wednesday I'll try this out in rehearsal).

Awesome tone!  I seem to have found another Bonamassa fan.  Do you have all his albums, or only a few?  Many of his songs and covers would be cool to play.

Only have that one album, but I am a big fan of that one, so might soon get some more. However I am worried if it's too much blues old style ...

Nice Tremolo on that machine (well I think so anyway).

As regards the tone I like it but can't judge as I don't have any of his material (yet), however bank account permitting I should be going to see them man himself tonight
Goodbye London !

LOL

Actually he uses 11s and strings them topwound over the tailpiece, which apparently gives '11s tone and '10s feel. I'll try it when I get to buy strings next ...
