New speaker day, guitar repaired, and new pickups
« on: July 12, 2008, 11:34:35 AM »
No pics of yet, as the old woman is on holiday. So its been a quiet week.
Sunday: picked up 1x12 Sidewinder, and the guy gave me a cab with it :) 2x10 sidewinders, but need to find a cab for that. Came to a total of £65 though, so I'm happy (yes I am an addict)

Thursday: trip to Croydon... Got my Gibson back! Awesome work from Jonathan, I shall find some pics to post of the Kahler rout, it was done with cutlery presumably. Now it has a proper stud mount USA Kahler, and a flip down string lock (discontinued 2 weeks before I wanted one :? )
Now the whole guitar gets the vibration of the string, and it made such a difference, before it was just the string ringing on its lonesome :(

Today: I am about to pick up my Epi Wylde, which has just had bone nut installed, Gibson wiring loom placed in, coil tap volume pots, and some Miracle men with the Steve Stevens ray gun on the bridge. I can't wait!

As I say, no pics yet, tomorrow!
Once film has finished downloading, I shall dig up the old Kahler route pix :P

Yes that Gibson came up nicely in the end
We found a good use for some tonepros locking studs so we could lock the Kahler down good and tight to the body
The previous installation did look like it was done with a spoon rather than a router, but we fixed all that
We re-crowned the frets where they were a little worn and wax dipped the old Gibson Dirty Finger pickups
The final setup got the action pretty sweet which we were pleased with and the whole thing sounded great through an amp.
We rejigged the coil tap switches and tone controls and took out an active booster from the 70s/early 80s that wasnt helping the sound any, so he now has separate tone controls that work.

Thanks to Will for bearing with us while we took a while getting it all done  :D
Glad he is happy with the results

Oh, nice work!  But we need pics of the whole guitar.  Now! :D

When I fitted the Kahler on my Hamer back in 1985 I made the cavity with a chisel, but it was nowhere near that bad (I tidied it up with my router a few years later).  How can people make such a mess?

Sorry guys, as I say, tomorrow the old woman returns.
Picked up my epi :D
In all honesty, the Miracle man and Holy Diver bridge are similar in flavour, very modern. Ceramic magnet just providing more bass treble and clarity
mmmmm

I've just been spending a few hours slowly putting together my Tele, mind wandering as it does on such occasions, and I was thinking about this thread again.

And what I thought was - what a great idea using the TonePros locking studs with the Kahler!  Two products that could almost have been designed to work together perfectly!  It almost makes me want to buy a Les Paul and put a stud-mount Kahler on it, just so I can do the same!  :D

Sorry, I'm getting hysterical.  Time for a cup of tea.

Looks excellent, Will.  And you're right, the string clamp thing doesn't look too obtrusive. :)
