One of my favourite bands are re-forming!

Ooh La La: Faces to reform?

The Faces keyboard player Ian McLagan has confirmed that rest of the band, including singer Rod Stewart and guitarist Ronnie Wood, are considering a reunion.

"We're hoping to get together later this year to play and then we may have some news, but I want it to happen, badly," he told BBC 6 Music.

McLagan said Stewart was the only member uncertain about reforming.

He doesn't need the money?

"Rod hasn't wanted to do it for a long time. He didn't see the need in it but I think he really wants to now. It's going to be great if it does happen," McLagan added.

The original Faces lineup comprised Stewart, Wood, Ian McLagan, Kenney Jones and the late Ronnie Lane.

They formed in 1969 and released four studio albums between 1970 and 1973.

I hope so, they were amazing & Ronnie Wood is vastly under-rated as a guitarist

It will be interesting.I am not sure if Rod is up to it. They'll miss Plonk though. I have offered my services to Mac but I think that the bass job is sewn up. This story has been going on for years. The Faces were a great great band and very under rated and, as you say, Ronnie Wood is too. His tasteful playing was a big influence on me.

My first reaction was YESSS!!  :D

But I think I have to agree with 38th - we'll miss Ronnie Lane (unless they give you job?), and young Rodney would be a slightly different front man now

It would be quite cool to see Rod doing something other than the awful bland tripe he's done the last 10-15 years.

I think Ronnie might be pre-occupied with an 18 year old Russian girl and a few crates of vodka, though.

OK, sorry, I'm not saying this to wind anyone up, I may be in a minority of one, but I have to say it - I cannot stand Ronnie Wood.  I just can't see/hear what's so supposed to be so good about him.  I don't like his playing, his singing... I think he's extraordinarily lucky to have the career he's had.

I saw him on the Jonathan Ross show a few years ago, playing a song off one of his solo albums with his son and daughter, and it was one of the most tuneless, shambolic things I've ever heard in my life... and then I kept hearing the same bloody song cropping up all over the place.  Arrgh!

Sorry, rant over.

Philly, everyones entitles to their opinon. I personally think he's a cracking player, but I agree on his singing most of the times it is shambolic, but that's what gives such personality to the songs

anyway, Ronnie Wood & a Zematis guitar is an iconic image

I must admit, apart from Rod's unplugged thing a while back, I have to agree with Philly Q about Ron Wood - for almost everything since the Faces. I don't even think much of his paintings - sorry Ron...

For some reason though, I love his playing in the Faces. (Unless someone tells me that Ronnie Lane overdubbed all the guitar parts... and that there's no Father Christmas,  :o, etc, etc)

I don't know, mebbe it's something to do with being in a band with Mr Richards for so long? (I don't actually fancy his guitar playing too much either, but then he is KEITH RICHARDS, somehow he's up there with Muddy, Robert Johnson, etc, etc, and he's not even dead yet)(even if he looks like he is!!).

I saw a Stones video a few years back that included rehearsal footage - KR is obviously the boss, RW just seemed content to follow along in a stoned fashion. Has to be said though, they created a hell of a groove together. The funniest bit was when KR announced a song to rehearse, Mick Jagger went "Oh right" reaching for his guitar, and KR gave him a withering "And WTF do you think you're gonna do with that?", and MJ sheepishly did as he was told... that really surprised me...

I suspect that ever since he joined the Stones, Ron Wood hasn't really had to* progress in any shape or form, has spent a lot of the time semi-conscious... and that's the Ron Wood we're seeing now...

But in the Faces, he was fab  :D

EDIT: *or been allowed to

I believe Keef (for he shall forever be known as) call's it 'an ancient form of weaving'. I like the idea ofthat & there's only been a few bands that have had that level of constitancy between players. Keef & Ronnie is one, Marc Ford & Rich Robinson is another, but when it works...WOW!

Yeah, I'd buy that as well - and I've just remembered that I have a Keef solo album that I was very disappointed with, I've probably only relistened to it once since I first bought it in the week it came out (and that was just to check I didn't like it!) But together, they groove... "weaving", I like that, not heard it before... And you're right about the Ford/Robinson pairing (I can see another thread in this, fave 5 guitar pairings...)

Bring it on!  :D

I've heard that "ancient form of weaving" phrase so many times, I wonder when he first said it?   I guess there's truth in it, I've never seen the Stones but I have seen many a video of their shows.  I'm always amazed by how ragged they are, but to their credit they are very much a live band - you never get the feeling they're just going through the motions or that one show is just like any other.

I saw that Jonathon Ross Show Philly and I too thought it was awful. I thought based on what I saw and heard that he wasn't that good on guitar but man I'm so wrong. He really is the bee's knees at it and he can play great slide and lap steel too. I think he was too pissed up to know what was going on, on that show!

Ronnie Wood is a great player given his day. I agree that his playing in the Stones is not a patch on his work with the Faces ( and no Ronnie Lane did not play those parts so you can relax). The  other "two Ronnies" (Wood & Lane) were a formidable pair and if people think that Richards/Woiod have something special then they seriously need to listen to Wood/Lane. It is a shame that Ronnie cannot seem to live without booze and with disastrous results. A pissed Ronnie Wood was funny in the Faces but is tragic now. His "singing" is not his strong point but his first  two solo albums were great. The faces though were one hell of a unit.It is difficult to reconcile the Rod Stewart of the Faces with the opparody that came out with "Do Ya Think I'm Sexy"  which, in spite of the intended irony, is twaddle. Ronnie Lane was a hero of mine. A great great songwriter-brilliant bass player and the heart and soul of the Faces. Mac & Kenney were the final bits of the jigsaw. Check the clips of the on Youtube and try not to smile at the sheer fun and good humour of it all.

+1 on every bit of that, except(!) I have to admit that I thought "Do Ya Think I'm Sexy" was a superb single  :D
