Mule bridge doing Dragonaut by Sleep!
« on: July 15, 2008, 11:53:05 AM »
On HC theres a "heaviest amp contest" thread so I did a track for it with my GH. Drums done in EZDrummer as usual and ran through a low pass to make them a bit darker sounding which seems to sound better to me. Guitar was Epi LP w/Mules > Keeley Rat (gain about halfway up) > GH50L (gain on 6) > G12H speakers. Its not the full track so it stops a bit abruptly toward the end, I might just fade it out instead.

Sorry for the noodling at the end I got a bit carried away  Bass was done by a HC user called pir, it sounds so dirty :D Making me want a bass now.

Not sure you'll win that 'heaviest amp' contest with this though!

True but its a heavy riff :) I'm gonna have to re-record when I get my pig 90, I bet it'll be perfect for this.

I think this one the guy who did the bass did on his Matamp is way heavier

Personally i think that Matamp sounds like cr@p, the Laney wins!

I reckon Matamps are very much an acquired taste. I never used to like them, but recently it's just sort of clicked

Same here, I dont know if I'd buy one because they only really seem to do that really dry but heavy stoner rock tone well, I havent heard many other clips I liked much except the odd minimat one.

haha it wasnt that good of a track was it? Not exactly the most challenging riffage.. thanks :D I dont think I'd get any session work because I dont know anything about theory and each time I sit down and try and learn some I give up because it seems to make music more of a chore than something enjoyable :P :?

Good stuff. I just love that open tone the Mule has even under high gain. Beautiful.

Indeed they do :) I cant stand Dopesmoker though, so overrated. Holy Mountain is way better imo!

Yeah ilyti the mules always have a great tone for anything. Still my favourite pickups out of those I've tried.

Aye I've started really liking the sound of matamps, the one in that clip sounds great. Seems perfect for that style

The track sounds great _tom_!  I don't want to jack this thread, but after listening to your clip I went on youtube to listen to more of this Supernau...I mean Dragonaut and it angered me how much they wanted to BE Black Sabbath.  The second riff is almost exactly like the main riff in Sabbath's Lord Of This World but changed just enough so they wouldn't get sued.

Sabbath - Lord Of This World

Sleep - Dragonaut
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zj9IAvv32wE

There are more similarites too.  In the Sleep video the singer is dressed exactly like Ozzy used to with the same hair and also played a Rickenbacker like Geezer used to.  Then you have the Laney amp and a Gibson, I was fully expecting an SG I really was.  I like Sabbath too but I think if you go that far with it you might as well be a cover band.  You can be influenced by a band and play in the "style" of that band without sounding exactly like them.  I haven't listened to any of Sleep's other stuff so I don't know if it's all this way but that video hit the hot button for me.

Again sorry for the hijack, I just want to know if I'm the only one that this angers.
